The daily production of the electricity system was sufficient to meet demand until early Tuesday evening, as stated by the spokeswoman of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO), Hara Koussiappa, in statements to CNA. The statement was made after electricity problems were observed on Monday, when assistance was requested from the occupied area network.
Koussiappa explained that the system is monitored daily, as some power plants are out of order due to scheduled maintenance, while there were also failures in individual units. As he said, on Monday afternoon reduced production was recorded, which led to the demand for energy exchange from the network of the occupied areas. This process continued throughout the night, as part of the Confidence Building Measures.
Koussiappa added that, in case demand exceeds production, rotational cuts may be applied nationwide for 30 minutes, with the Cyprus TSO making announcements and recommendations to limit consumption during peak hours.
She stressed that the situation is constantly being evaluated and estimated that additional production units will be delivered. He noted that Tuesday's production was sufficient and there was no need for cuts. According to official data, conventional generation at 8 p.m. on Tuesday stood at 897 MW, the estimate for distributed generation at 9 MW and wind generation at 2 MW, covering the total demand that was 908 MW.
