A coordinated operation took place yesterday in Nicosia, with the participation of members of the Police and officers of the Health Services of Nicosia Municipality, the Department of Labour Inspection and the Department of Taxation.
This action is part of an initiative by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Marios Hartsiotis, to enhance the sense of security in the walled city.
These actions were co-decided, following a wide-ranging meeting held recently, with the participation of the Minister of Justice, the Mayor of Nicosia, the Chief of Police and representatives from various state services.
During the operation, 4 persons were arrested for illegal employment, while another 4 persons were arrested for illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus.
Also, officers of the Health Services issued warnings to 5 premises while officers of the Department of Labour Inspection issued 3 findings for undeclared work.

A case was registered yesterday against four people who had been arrested as part of an investigation into a case of forgery of players' employment contracts.
According to the police, the four defendants, aged 47, 58, 57 and 44, appeared before the Famagusta District Court, which ordered them to be released with conditions.
The offences include: Conspiracy to commit a felony, conspiracy to defraud, drawing up and circulating a false document, as well as obtaining registration by false representations.
The case was set for response on April 11, 2025.
It is recalled that the 47-year-old was arrested on Thursday, February 20, while the other three persons were arrested on the 13th.

A case was registered today before a District Court against a former Police Officer who was arrested on February 13, 2025.
The offences concern:
Conspiracy to commit a
felony Unlawful possession of a controlled drug
Unlawful possession of a controlled drug for the purpose of supply
Supply of a controlled drug to other persons
Participation in a criminal organization
Money laundering.
The said member of the Police, based on article 17(1) of the Police Law of 2004 (L.73(I)/2004), was dismissed on 14/02/2025, from the ranks of the Police.
A case has also been registered against the second person who was arrested as part of the investigation.
The Court ordered that both be released with conditions.

Police arrested a 30-year-old man yesterday to facilitate investigations into an ongoing arson case.
Around 3 a.m. On February 20, 2025, a fire broke out in a car, which was parked outside the house of its 70-year-old owner, in Limassol. The fire completely destroyed the vehicle, while extensive damage was caused to two other cars, which were parked nearby.
Examinations were carried out at the scene from which it was determined that the fire was set maliciously, using flammable material.Further investigation of the case secured testimony against the 30-year-old, who was arrested yesterday under a court warrant and taken into custody.
The 30-year-old was brought before the Limassol District Court today, which issued a three-day detention order against him.
