The Larnaca Permanent Assize Court today imposed an eight-year prison sentence on a 23-year-old man after finding him guilty following a drug trafficking trial. The case concerned the importation and possession with intent to supply to another person of a quantity of cannabis with a total gross weight of 11 kg and 32 grams.
The quantity of cannabis was detected during a coordinated operation carried out by members of the Anti-Narcotics Service – YKAN, last October, in the district of Larnaka.
On October 10, 2024 specifically, after evaluating information, the members of YKAN stopped for inspection, the car driven by the 23-year-old, on the highway near the Kalo Chorio area in Larnaca. In the vehicle, the members of the Police located the quantity of cannabis with a total gross weight of 11 kg and 32 grams and proceeded to arrest the 23-year-old.
Upon completion of the police examinations, the Police proceeded to the immediate registration of the case for trial by the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court. This morning, the Permanent Assize Court sentenced the 23-year-old to eight years in prison for the offence of importing drugs with intent to supply to another person.

A 16-year-old boy suffered a serious hand injury yesterday after a firecracker exploded in Larnaca.
Around 4:30 p.m. Yesterday, while the 16-year-old was with other young people in the courtyard of a church, in a village of Larnaka district, under circumstances that are being investigated, an improvised firecracker exploded. The explosion injured the 16-year-old.
He was initially taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where it was found that he suffered a serious injury to the little finger of his left hand. He was then transferred to a private hospital for further hospitalization.

A 47-year-old man was identified and arrested by members of the Police, who was wanted for police examinations as part of an investigation into a case of forgery of players' employment contracts.
The 47-year-old was located at noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025 and arrested under a court warrant.
Three other persons, aged 58, 57 and 44, were arrested on 13 February and are in custody under court orders in connection with the same case.
The offences under investigation include:
- Conspiracy to commit a felony
- Conspiracy to defraud
- Drawing up a false document
- Circulation of a forged document
- Obtaining registration by false representations
According to the evidence under investigation, the offences were allegedly committed between July 2024 and February 2025, in the districts of Famagusta and Nicosia.
The Anti-Theft of Intellectual Property and Illegal Betting Division is investigating the case.

An episodic chase took place yesterday afternoon in Larnaka.
Specific members of the Police had information that a person, against whom a court arrest warrant was pending, as he failed to appear in court, was in an area in Aradipou area. Members of the Police located him and pursued him as he tried to escape.
During the chase under circumstances that are being investigated, the 43-year-old lost control of his vehicle and as a result fell from a height of 4 meters, but neither he nor the 53-year-old who had as a passenger was injured.
In the car, other people's credit cards and truck batteries were found, for which the two men did not give satisfactory explanations.
The two were arrested.

A 43-year-old man who was wanted for vehicle theft was located and arrested by members of the police.
The theft was committed on December 12, 2024, in Paralimni, where a vehicle was parked.
The 43-year-old was located and arrested under a court warrant, shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025.

A shocking incident of violence unfolded last night on Anexartisias Street, after the coronation of the carnival king and the official start of carnivals. According to a woman's complaint, an eyewitness, a group of youths with covered faces attacked a small alien young man, who was kicked nonstop, even when he was unable to react.
The report of the serious incident of violence was made through a post on the personal account of Mrs. Monica Pieridou, who was an eyewitness. Contacted by Filenews, she said that she intends to officially inform the police about the beating of the young foreigner.
It should be noted that, according to her, the young man was taken by ambulance to a hospital in the city seriously injured, while if it were not for other citizens, the perpetrators would not have stopped attacking him.
As she explained, the unidentified masked men pursued him from Saripolou Square to the end of Anexartisias Street, after the coronation of the carnival king had been completed.

At a speed of 186 kilometers per hour, a 33-year-old man was driving on the Kofinou-Larnaka highway.
According to the Police, around 8.30 pm on Thursday night he was stopped and arrested by members of the Traffic Headquarters.
He underwent a breathalyzer test, with a reading of 77μg%ml instead of up to 22 which is the limit.

A reading of 80μg%ml instead of up to 22, was the result of a breathalyzer test that a 44-year-old driver underwent after a road collision in which she was involved.
According to the police, the driver collided with a car driven by a 57-year-old man, around 11.00 on Thursday night, in Paphos.
In the 44-year-old's vehicle was also a 55-year-old woman.
