Pafos Live 3 February 2025
Two years ago, in February 2023, unknown persons desecrated the monument dedicated to EOKA fighters in DASOUDI Park.
They repeated it last night by writing slogans and forming various symbols on the monument. It was preceded a few years ago by the theft of bronze portraits of Heroes that were replaced.
The installation of security cameras is unfortunately the only option for the protection of monuments and public property.

Incidents occurred outside AEK Arena in Larnaca, immediately after the end of the match between AEK and AEL. The situation got out of control when a portion of fans moved menacingly towards the fans of the opposing team, and then confronted the police.
The clashes moved near the roundabout, where fans fired flares at police forces, who were at the scene to prevent tensions. The situation became further exacerbated, with rioters throwing Molotov cocktails and naval flares at police officers, who used chemicals to restore order.
Police forces remained in the area for some time after the incidents in order to prevent any further unrest. The incidents injured a female police officer, who was taken to first aid with a bruise on her tibia. The circumstances of her injury are being investigated.
Update - Purely by chance, we did not mourn victims yesterday after the end of the match between AEK and AEL, since the fans had planned a war targeting police officers, as reported by the Police, against whom stones, Molotov cocktails and naval flares were thrown. One policewoman was injured, fortunately slightly, by a naval flare. So far, a 36-year-old AEL fan has been arrested, who after the end of the match allegedly insulted members of the Police.
Other searches are being carried out in the area to determine where the brainless fans had hidden their ammunition, since police believe they were outside the stadium. CCTV images are also being processed in an attempt to identify the perpetrators of serious incidents.
Police spokeswoman Kyriaki Labrianidou, speaking on state radio, spoke of a fan war against the police, revealing that a naval flare was also thrown an hour before the match and that for this reason the officer in charge had asked for the match not to take place. The officer in charge of policing asked for it not to take place an hour before the start of the match. The referee ruled that if nothing is done between 18:00-19:00 the match would take place. The match happened, everything went well on the pitch. Unfortunately, with the departure of the fans of the two teams and while it was arranged not to face each other, the Police were attacked. Molotov cocktails, naval flares were thrown by the fans of one team, and the fans of the other team were throwing stones towards the police."
A police officer was injured in the tibia as a result of a naval flare. She was taken to hospital, where she received first aid and was discharged. "These things are very serious, yesterday we could have lost the life of our colleague who fortunately was wearing an anti-riot uniform and was not penetrated by the naval flare. The girl has been injured, she is in good health and has been released from the hospital," Lambrianidou said.
As for the 36-year-old who was arrested, he is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court within the day.
