Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor (GWM) and China's leading telecom providers are incorporating DeepSeek's artificial intelligence (AI) model into their products in a move that strengthens the company's position in the technology sector.
Great Wall Motor, China's first publicly traded automaker, has confirmed that it has already integrated DeepSeek into its connected vehicle system, "Coffee Intelligence", improving the performance and functionality of its smart vehicles.
GWM and the expansion of AI in the automotive industry
Great Wall Motor, headquartered in Hebei, is one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in China, focusing mainly on SUVs and trucks. In 2024, the company sold 1.23 million vehicles worldwide, confirming its market position.
GWM also operates through partnerships, such as the joint venture with BMW Group since 2019 to produce electric MINIs in China. The integration of DeepSeek into "Coffee Intelligence" is expected to further enhance the capabilities of its vehicles, leveraging AI technologies for improved connectivity, automated operations, and advanced data analytics.
China's telecom giants adopt DeepSeek
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that the country's three largest telecom companies – China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom – have started integrating DeepSeek into their services, boosting technological innovation in China.
The use of the AI model is part of a broader context of digital transformation, where Chinese enterprises are investing in open source and AI technologies to improve their services and products.
DeepSeek and the impact on the Chinese economy
DeepSeek's integration doesn't go unnoticed by investors. Shares of companies related to artificial intelligence, chips and data centers have seen increased movement in recent days as DeepSeek's technology shapes new market data.
Capitalonline Data Service, a leading cloud provider based in Beijing, said it has developed DeepSeek-R1, while MeiG Smart Technology, an IoT provider, is working on customizing related models.
However, both companies cautioned that, although DeepSeek promises great prospects, the actual impact on the market remains uncertain.
Tencent and Huawei follow the new trend
Beyond the automotive and telecommunications industries, giants such as Tencent and Huawei have already integrated DeepSeek into their products, boosting the AI momentum in China.
DeepSeek's AI model presents a new challenge for traditional technology companies as it changes the way businesses use AI to improve their products and services.
DeepSeek is gaining traction in the tech industry, with Great Wall Motor and China's leading telecom companies integrating its solutions into their infrastructure.
While DeepSeek's technology promises lower costs and high performance, analysts remain sceptical about how its adoption will evolve. However, the rapid increase in interest from Chinese businesses shows that DeepSeek's artificial intelligence will play a key role in China's digital transformation in the coming years.
