Cancer remains the second leading cause of death in Cyprus, with approximately 4,000 new cases and 1,560 deaths annually over the past five years, the Cyprus Nurses and Midwives Association’s Oncology Department reported today.
Prostate cancer leads male diagnoses, with cases rising from 540 annually during 2016-2020 to 656 in 2020. Breast cancer affects approximately 700 women and seven men annually, the report showed.
The data was released on World Cancer Day as nurses launched a three-year campaign titled “United in Uniqueness” (2025-2027), focusing on patient journeys and care experiences.
“Cancer is not merely a medical diagnosis but a deeply personal issue”, according to an association statement, which emphasised the role of oncology nurses in treatment coordination, symptom management, and psychological support.
The initiative aims to promote personalised treatment approaches while raising awareness about prevention and early diagnosis.
