AMBULANCE CREWS - AS FROM MONDAY THEY WILL ABSTAIN FROM ALL OVERTIME WORK

Filenews 14 February 2025 -  by Marilena Panayi

Ambulance crew rescuers announced that from Monday they will abstain, as they have decided, from any overtime work, with all that this entails for the proper service of emergencies.

The Association of Ambulance Crews, as we are informed, made this decision due to the severe understaffing of the ambulance service, which as of 2023 operates with 16 fewer rescuers (due to retirements and resignations) in the emergency call response program.

This, as explained to Filenews, results in rescuers being driven to exhaustion as they are constantly forced to work overtime on a daily basis in order to meet the needs of emergencies.

This fact, in conjunction with the non-timely promotion of the bill that provides for the safeguarding of the profession of rescuer in Cyprus, was reported in Filenews, has forced workers to take measures.

According to information, the Association also informed the Federation of Cyprus Patients' Associations last night while awaiting the actions of the State Health Services Organization (to which the ambulance service belongs) which, as the employees claim, committed to strengthening the staffing of ambulances.
