The Paphos Hoteliers Association will award thirty scholarships to students of the School of Management, Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship of the Paphos Technical University and to students of the Paphos Technical School who wish to study at this school, as stated by the president of the local PASYXE, Euripides Loizides.
Mr.Loizides was speaking after a meeting he had with Paphos Mayor Phaedon Phaedonos on the issue.
In his statements to CNA, Mr. Loizides stated that the proposal to support the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship Management of the Cyprus Tourism and Hospitality Academy in Paphos was made by the Mayor of Paphos and embraced by the Paphos Hoteliers Association.
The support, he said, "will be provided by granting approximately thirty scholarships to both students of the School of Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship Management of the Technical University of Cyprus in Paphos and to students of the Technical School of Paphos who wish to study at this particular school."
After completing their studies with scholarships from PASYXE Paphos, they will be able to be employed in hotels in the Paphos district, he added.
Mr. Loizides continued by saying that the granting of scholarships is an incentive for the admission of more students to the school of tourism industry.
Referring to the issue of seasonality, he said that the tourism industry in Paphos operates year-round, adding that during the winter period, ten thousand beds operate in the Paphos district, which means that hotel employees can work year-round.
He continued, this is an industry that has good salaries and, at least in Paphos, seasonality is "going to break," as he put it.
