A solution to the problem of Transnistria, in Moldova, which was left without natural gas, is expected to be provided by a company based in Cyprus.
According to Reuters, citing Russian newspaper Kommersant, Ozbor Enterprises, a Cyprus-based company that shut down about 3.1 million cubic meters per day from TurkStream – designed by Russia – for possible gas shipments to the breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria.
This quantity will be shipped daily for one month, starting February 1, from the Strandzha 2 entry point located on the Turkish-Bulgarian border, Kommersant said in its report, citing data from trading platform RBP.
Thousands of people in Transnistria have been without natural gas, thus heating and hot water, since January 1, when Russia's Gazprom suspended gas exports to the region after the expiration of a five-year contract between Kiev and Moscow that allowed the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine.
As far as the breakaway Moldovan region is concerned, Gazprom had decided to stop supplying gas to the region, citing an unpaid debt of $709 million owed by Moldova, with Chisinau authorities contesting this figure.
