Pafos Press 9 January 2025
Until January 25th, interested parties will be able to submit any proposals for the Paphos Marina following the basic characteristics that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism has made public.
According to the president of the EBE Pafos Giorgos Mai, shortly before Christmas the basic characteristics of the Marina were published by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism so that the Consortiums or potential bidders could start preparing. As reported to the KYPE by Mr. May, the Deputy Ministry has provided the basic information and asks the interested parties themselves and other bodies until January 25 to submit any suggestions or questions. Afterwards, added the President of the EBE Paphos, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism will invite interested parties for expressions of interest, the Consortiums that meet the specifications and characteristics that a Consortium must have in order to undertake this type of project will be pre-selected and then they will be announced the offers.
Meanwhile, according to Mr. May representatives of the company that has undertaken the preparation of the documents for the tender that will follow in order to find a strategic investor for the development of the Paphos Marina project, recently met with representatives of the Paphos Chamber of Commerce.
This, said Mr. May, is within the framework of the contacts announced by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. In particular, as he said, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism had announced that with the publication of the main characteristics of the project, they would also complete a cycle of contacts with various agencies. One of the bodies, he emphasized, was the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as a result of which the meeting took place in the context of which, he said, they reiterated some of their positions, some of which have been adopted. We are, he said, "in contact and we will also submit in writing by January 25 - the date set by the relevant publication of the Deputy Ministry - some of our views which do not seem to have been adopted in their entirety".
In the meantime, the factors of Paphos province, continued Mr. May, they are pushing so that there is no further delay and that the investor who will create the big project in Potima Bay in Kissonerga is finally found. As for the timetables, he noted, the way the program has been submitted based on the consultants' offer could not be more coincidental. So, he explained, they will let things flow according to the plan of the Undersecretary and the Counsellors. He also reiterated that the pressure they exert is to set such conditions that are clear to avoid complications during the submission of tenders and that there are no ambiguities that give the right to any unsuccessful tenderers to appeal to the Reviewing Authority and the Courts and have the bad precedent they had in the past.
Mr. Mais noted that they will monitor the progress of the process step by step and where mistakes and omissions are found they will take the appropriate actions, so that the process can be completed without problems and they will have the announcement and the implementation of the project.
The estimates said Mr. They are talking about validating the offer, if interest is expressed, at the beginning of the new year 2026, while great importance is also given to the wording of the terms of the offer in order to avoid future problems, he concluded.
