The number of citizens rushing to pay their bills from cameras has increased fivefold in recent days, after the Police announced that from March 31, 2025, the registration of cases in the Courts will begin.
"F" reports that while previously about a thousand out-of-court fees were paid through the Police website per day, since last Thursday the number of citizens who have outstanding out-of-court cases and rushed to pay them, has reached about 5000 per day.
As it was characteristically mentioned, there is chaos with the system since the response was very large and shows that indeed drivers knew that they had pending issues with extrajudicial fees but avoided paying them.
Of course, there are also cases where the notification for the existence of a registered letter went to the wrong address, so now the Police have given space to citizens to check through the website of the managing company whether an extrajudicial offense is pending against them, so that they can then take action to pay it.
As "F" wrote, it is estimated that at the moment more than 250,000 undeliveries are pending, a huge number and with the complaints made every day by the more than 100 cameras that operate, these are constantly increasing, making them difficult to manage.
There is a debate in the legal world and not only whether extrajudicial cases are time-barred after 12 months from their issuance. However, because the penalties provided for are longer than the imprisonment of 12 months, there does not seem to be a question of limitation, while the question of whether someone can be prosecuted if he has not received his extrajudicial document is open. even if it is unpaid.
The Legal Service has given the green light to register criminal cases against those who received notice but ignored it, so it is expected that the matter will be clarified in the Courts.
Meanwhile, the list of those who did not receive their extras from the cameras is also being promoted, with which police officers at airports and ports, as well as barricades, will be equipped.
Before someone gets on the plane, he will be served with the extrajudicial document, while Turkish Cypriots will also be searched at the barricades.
At the moment, about 25,000 out-of-court cameras concern Turkish Cypriots and have not been served. The photoradar list, as it will be called, is expected to enter into force in February, after some approvals from competent departments on personal data management issues.
