The engineers and technicians of the Water Development Department are still at the Mavrokolymbos dam today in order to study alternative methods of solving the problem after its evacuation, taking into account that the technical method used for its construction did not allow intervention to solve the problem, said the Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Andreas Gregoriou.
Therefore, Mr. Grigoriou noted, "they are trying to find a solution that will allow the maintenance of the dam in the future but also the intervention in case of a problem." In addition, as he said, the engineers and technicians of the WDD are making some evaluations in order to decide and conclude in the coming days on the method they will choose and then inform them.
Mr. Grigoriou said that this has never been done before, adding that the damage that occurred in the Mavrokolymptos dam is due to the failure and destruction of the ventilation duct. He also estimated that the failure was not related to the non-maintenance that "some may claim".
