Around 8 p.m. yesterday, while members of the Pafos OPE were on motorized patrol in an area of Paphos, they stopped a car driven by a 50-year-old man for inspection.
In a subsequent check, five spools with copper cable were found inside the vehicle, as well as a small roll of copper, for which the 50-year-old did not give satisfactory explanations for their origin, resulting in his arrest for the offence of illegal possession of property.
Also, inside the car, various burglary tools were found, resulting in his re-arrest for the offense of possession of burglary tools.
The 50-year-old also refused to give an exhalation sample for a narcotest test, and was found to be driving his car without a driver's license and without a safety certificate.

Police arrested one person yesterday as part of an investigation into the offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary and theft, theft of a motorcycle, causing malicious damage and unlawful possession of property.
He is a 20-year-old man who was detained to facilitate interrogations.
His arrest was preceded yesterday afternoon by a search of his home, during which various products were found, which an interrogator allegedly admitted to come from three burglaries, committed between 7/11/2024 and 27/12/2024.
Also, the 20-year-old pointed to the underground parking of the apartment building where he lives, a motorcycle, which had been reported as stolen on 27/12/2024.
In total, the 20-year-old admitted to committing three cases of burglary and theft, two of which involved school canteens.
Today, he is expected to be brought before the Nicosia District Court for a detention order.

A case of assault against apartment tenants in Larnaca and injury of two of them with a knife, is being investigated by the Police.
According to the data under consideration, at around 10.40 p.m. Yesterday, a number of people allegedly forcibly entered an apartment in Larnaca and attacked its five occupants.
The attack injured two of the apartment's occupants, aged 21 and 29, who were taken to Larnaca General Hospital. They were found to have several lacerations, allegedly inflicted with a knife. After receiving first aid, they were discharged.

A young driver was arrested for a flagrant offence, as he was driving at 182 kilometers per hour, instead of 100 on the highway.
Specifically, according to the Police, members of the Road Accident Prevention Unit of the Police Headquarters stopped today at around 1.30pm, for inspection, a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man, on the Nicosia – Akaki motorway, near Kokkinotrimithia at a speed of 182 km/h instead of 100 and was arrested for a flagrant offence.

There were two head-on vehicle collisions over the weekend due to alcohol, according to police.
As part of its actions to prevent fatal and serious road collisions, the Police continues its intensive checks to identify and remove drivers under the influence of alcohol from the road network. In the last three days, members of the Police made a total of 74 complaints for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Among the allegations is a 40-year-old man's complaint on the evening of January 5. Around 8pm, the car driven by the 40-year-old was stopped by members of the Road Accident Prevention Unit, after it was moving on a motorway in Larnaka district, at a speed of 152 kilometers, instead of 100. The driver underwent a preliminary alcohol test, reading 47μg% instead of 22μg%, and did not provide a satisfactory sample for a final alcohol test.
The 40-year-old was charged in writing and is expected to appear before a court today for immediate registration of a case against him.
In the last three days, however, we also had two road collisions, caused by driving under the influence of alcohol, in the districts of Pafos and Larnaka. In both cases the collision was head-on, while drivers involved in them tested positive for alcohol.
Specifically, the final breathalyzer test reading for a 23-year-old driver in Paphos district was 39μg% instead of 9μg%, while for a 21-year-old driver in Larnaka district, it was 100μg% instead of 9μg%.
The collision in Paphos injured three people, who are being treated at Paphos General Hospital, while the collision in Larnaca slightly injured the driver of one vehicle.

Serious episodes with poachers. Around 8:00 last night, while members of the Anti-Poaching Squad were conducting a motorized patrol in the Potamia area, they noticed three vehicles moving through the buffer zone.
Members of the platoon attempted to intercept the vehicles in question when one of the drivers developed speed and drove his vehicle towards one of the police officers who had exited the official vehicle to stop them.
The member of the Police used his service pistol aiming at the tires of the car, but the driver of this vehicle as well as the second vehicle managed to escape towards the buffer zone.
Subsequently, the driver of the third vehicle was signalled to stop, but he also developed speed, driving his vehicle towards the member of the Police.
The police officer managed to enter the service vehicle, as a result of which the suspect's car collided with the front of the service vehicle. Shots were fired at the tires of this vehicle, the driver of which also managed to flee towards the buffer zone.
Three members of the Anti-Poaching Squad visited Nicosia General Hospital where they underwent medical examinations and were granted sick leave due to injuries.

The Police in Limassol were put on alert, following an incident that occurred in the area of Zakaki, between minors of foreigners residing in a shelter and residents of the area.
According to Filenews' reliable information, the incident began when a resident of the area invited officers of the Welfare Office to visit the house where the minors are hosted.
The woman complained that minors have been systematically causing trouble and problems lately. When the officers of the Welfare Office arrived at the scene, the minors reacted strongly.
Although they did not leave the premises where they are hosted, they started throwing stones towards the outside environment. The throwing of objects caused damage to a vehicle, while one of the stones hit a female resident of the area on the head, causing the head injury.
The incident infuriated residents, who reacted strongly. The situation worsened and the intervention of the Police was required.
Members of the Agios Ioannis Police Station arrived at the scene and took steps to restore order.
