Police arrested a 37-year-old Greek national last night as part of an investigation into arson of a car, detection of a number of bullets, and illegal possession of property.
The 37-year-old was found at around 10.50am last night in an area in Paphos where he was driving a car with false registration number plates. As found by the members of the Police who stopped the car for inspection, the vehicle belongs to a resident of Paphos, who is abroad and whose residence was burglarized on December 23-24, 2024.
Passengers in the vehicle driven by the 37-year-old were a 33-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man. After a boiler, a number of cut copper tubes, a copper tube cutter, and a knife were found in the vehicle, the three were arrested for the offence of illegal possession of property, as it is being investigated whether the items found are the product of theft.
The 37-year-old was also found in possession of a small quantity of 0.2 grams of crystal methamphetamine.
The 37-year-old was also arrested under two court warrants issued as part of an investigation into a car arson case and a number of firearm bullets.
The arson of a car was committed on September 11, around 3.00 am, while the vehicle, owned by a 33-year-old man, was parked in an open parking lot in Paphos.
On October 10, at around 9.00 am, eight rifle bullets and one pistol bullet were found hidden in a communal apartment area in an apartment building where the 37-year-old lived in Paphos.

The Assize Court, which met today in Larnaka, sentenced a 59-year-old woman to 12 years in prison after finding her guilty in connection with a case involving the importation and possession of drugs with the intention of supplying to another person.
The case concerned the possession of cocaine, weighing approximately 2 kg and approximately 116 grams, which was found in a bag in the possession of the 59-year-old when she arrived from abroad at Larnaka airport.

Police, after cooperating with German authorities, have arrested a 76-year-old man in connection with an ongoing case of online fraud, extortion of money by false representations, and money laundering.
The 76-year-old was wanted by the authorities of the Republic, who issued a European arrest warrant against him, following evidence that emerged during the investigation by the ICF of Larnaca of the case of online fraud. He was found in Germany on November 24 last year and arrested under the European warrant, while after a court procedure, the German authorities approved the request for his extradition to Cyprus.
Members of the Larnaca ICF went to Germany from where yesterday they accompanied the suspect by plane to Larnaka airport. Upon their arrival in Cyprus, they proceeded to arrest him with a court warrant.
The fraud was reported to the Police, a resident of Larnaka. According to the complaint, the complainant proceeded online, in August, 2022, to purchase a tractor-type vehicle, worth €150,000. After sending the money by wire transfer and never receiving the vehicle, he found that he had been deceived.
After examinations carried out by the ICF of Larnaca, in cooperation with the German authorities, evidence emerged against the 76-year-old.

Video of the episodic chase that occurred shortly before 7:00 in the evening on the main streets of Limassol, is making the rounds on the internet.
It is recalled that everything happened when members of the Limassol OPE signaled a driver moving on Misiaouli & Kavazoglou Street to stop, however, he not only did not obey, but developed speed and fled.
After being chased to the old port of the city, the foreign driver caused a traffic accident, as his vehicle collided with metal poles. According to an earlier report by Filenews, he refused to exit the vehicle.
When officers finally managed to get him out of the car, they found him in possession of a small amount of drugs. At the same time, offensive instruments such as a bat and iron fists were found inside the vehicle.
The man was arrested and taken to the Limassol Police Headquarters. The 25-year-old was charged in writing and released.

The Larnaca District Court issued today a four-day detention order against a 68-year-old man from Athienou, to facilitate investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession of property including tractors and generators.
During a search conducted at his premises in a rural area in Athienou, two tractors, an agricultural crane and two generators were found. During the investigation it was found that the tractors' identification number was erased.
The 68-year-old claimed he bought the tractors from a person he knows, but gave no further details on how they came into his possession and gave no satisfactory explanation for the other items.
The man was arrested and taken into custody, while being questioned he gave some allegations. At the same time, he pointed to another property in a rural area of Athienou, where two generators were found, which he claimed to have bought from the same person. The suspect indicated to the police another premises in the same rural area, however, he did not give consent to search.
However, inside the premises there appear to be a number of generators and agricultural machinery, for which he did not give any explanation for their possession. This premises is expected to be investigated within the day.
Police investigations are ongoing and it is not excluded that there will be another arrest.
The arrested man was brought today before the Larnaca District Court, which issued a four-day detention order against him.
The case is being investigated by the Athienou Police Station.

Following targeted investigations, police officers from the Nea Ionia Crime Prosecution and Investigation Department in Athens located and arrested a 76-year-old wanted man.
The arrest took place on Monday in Athens on the basis of a European warrant issued by Cypriot authorities.
According to the Hellenic Police, the man is accused of sexual acts against a minor, allegedly committed since the summer of 2023, both in Cyprus and Attica.
The arrested person was taken to the competent public prosecutor's office for further legal proceedings.

A fourth person, a 24-year-old foreigner, was arrested by the Larnaca ICF in connection with the attempted murder in Kornos against a 30-year-old man. A court warrant for his arrest was pending.
On Friday, he is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for a detention order. Police believe they are now very close to solving the crime.
It is noted that three other people from Syria, aged 23, 24 and 26, who were arrested in Nicosia, are in custody in the case.
It is recalled that the attempted murder was committed in the center of Kornos at 2 p.m. on January 9 in front of the eyes of terrified citizens.
Two of the four occupants of a vehicle later spotted in Alethriko, according to police, got out of it and started firing pistols at the 30-year-old, who was in another car in the area.
The 30-year-old, in his attempt to escape, collided with the car of the perpetrators and then went alone to a private clinic in Limassol with injuries to the shoulder and arm.

The 50-year-old Greek man responded today to the Assize Court for the homicide of his 43-year-old brother-in-law in Pegeia last July.
After admitting the most important of the charges he faces, the Assize Court set its next session for March 4 for the defendant to answer whether or not to admit to the other charges he faces that carry lesser sentences.
The tragedy in Pegeia's family took place during a family gathering on the evening of July 3. The 50-year-old and the victim, under circumstances that are being investigated, argued, confronted and other bystanders intervened to separate them.
The suspect fled the scene but returned a few minutes later carrying a firearm with which he fatally wounded the victim and then fled the scene. He was arrested in the early hours of the next day, questioned and, according to police, allegedly admitted to committing the offence.

Police in Larnaca started an investigation after receiving two separate reports of dog poisonings in Kamares, Larnaca on Τhursday.
One dog died after being rushed to a private veterinary clinic in Kamares, with a post-mortem examination confirming death by poisoning, authorities said.
The dogs reportedly died after ingesting poisoned bait.
Police are investigating the case.

“Authorities” in the occupied north have arrested nine men aged between 25 and 42 on conspiracy charges after they allegedly attempted to cross into government-controlled areas of Cyprus.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday evening in the village of Fyllia when authorities stopped two vehicles during a routine check, according to Turkish Cypriot media.
Officials discovered the passengers had paid a combined sum of €1,300 and 300 dollars to the drivers for transport to the southern part of the divided island.
The men remain in custody as authorities continue their investigation into the case.
