A case of attempted murder and injury of three people, aged 18, 19 and 16, is being investigated by the Police in Limassol. 

According to the evidence under investigation, while the 18-year-old, 19-year-old, 16-year-old, along with a fourth person, also aged 16, were in the area of the Old Port, in Limassol, at around 8.25 last night, they were attacked by three persons, with a knife. The attack injured the 18-year-old, 19-year-old and 16-year-old. 

The 18-year-old was taken by ambulance to a private hospital, where he was found to have a deep chest wound. After undergoing surgery, he was intubated and detained for hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit. His state of health, according to the attending physicians, is critical. 

The 16-year-old was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital, where he was found to have a chest injury. He was treated and kept for hospitalization, with his health condition stable and out of danger. 

The 19-year-old went to a private hospital for medical examinations, where he was found to have a traumatic head injury and bruises on his face. He was treated and discharged. 

Police are investigating attempted murder, wounding, grievous bodily harm, assault causing actual bodily harm, stabbing, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The exams are continued by the ICF of Limassol.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested for facilitating police investigations into an ongoing case of illegal possession of property and money laundering after an amount of money around €49,000 was allegedly found in his vehicle.

According to the Police yesterday, Saturday, information was received about the purchase and sale of drugs in an area of Dromolaxia in the district of Larnaka.

Members of the ICF of Larnaka and the YKAN went to the area and shortly before 4.30 in the afternoon a man arrived at the scene by car and while trying to park they stopped him.

A check carried out by the Police found that the driver of the car was a 45-year-old Cypriot.

A search of the car found the amount of €48,797 for which he did not give satisfactory explanations as to the legality of its possession and origin.

The 45-year-old was arrested for the offence of illegal possession of property and money laundering and is expected to be brought before the Larnaca District Court today for a detention order.

The case is being investigated by the ICF of Larnaca.

A one-day detention order was imposed on Saturday by the Pafos District Court against a 30-year-old man arrested by the Animal Police under a warrant on Friday night regarding the detection of a dog in a trash bin in Peyia.

According to the Office of the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, the 30-year-old is facing charges related to animal cruelty and cruelty offences under the Dogs Law.

In statements to CNA, the Spokeswoman of the Crime Prevention Office of the Headquarters, to which the Animal Police belongs, Nikoleta Tyrimou, said that the dog was accidentally spotted by a woman in a garbage bin in Peyia, who then proceeded with the complaint.

The animal is being treated at a veterinary clinic and is in poor condition, he added.

As he said, further examinations revealed reasonable suspicion against the owner of the dog and for this reason an arrest warrant was issued resulting in his arrest.

Loaded with drugs, a 46-year-old British man arrived in Cyprus and was arrested at Larnaka airport.

According to police, 20kg of cannabis was found in the 46-year-old's luggage.

Specifically, officers of the Department of Customs and Excise in cooperation with YKAN officers at Larnaka Airport stopped for inspection the 46-year-old British passenger who arrived in Cyprus from Toronto, Canada via Frankfurt.

An X-ray examination of the passenger's baggage revealed an indication that its contents may have been narcotics. In the physical test that followed, cannabis with a total weight of 19 kg and 366 grams was detected.

The passenger was arrested for flagrant offences and the drugs were confiscated by the officers of the Customs and Excise Department.

Today he will be taken to the Larnaca District Court and his detention will be requested. [he has been remanded for 8 days]

Arson is believed to be the cause of the fire that broke out at dawn on Sunday in a truck in Astromeritis.

According to an official of the Press Office of the Police, at 4.30 in the morning the information about the fire was received and members of the Police and Fire Brigade rushed to the scene. However, the fire in the truck had already been extinguished by its 53-year-old owner. The truck was parked in an open area behind the owner's residence and suffered extensive damage.

As it was found by the first examinations of the Police, the fire was set in the vehicle maliciously, while next to it was parked double cab enclosed with liquid, but no fire had been set in it.

The scene was cordoned off by the Police and in the morning the examinations by the Police were to continue.

Police have made three arrests of minors in connection with a case of theft at a food distributor in Limassol.

Specifically, after examinations and evaluation of evidence received and information provided to the ICF of Limassol, testimony has emerged and three minors have been arrested for a case of Conspiracy to commit a Felony, Robbery of a food distributor committed near a park in the area of a T/C district on 15/1/25 in Limassol.

The three arrested were taken to the Limassol District Court for their detention procedure where a detention order was secured for eight days. Another person whose identity has been released is wanted in the same case.

How the attack happened

According to the police press office, as reported by the complainant, after parking outside a park, he was approached by three young people, who came out of a nearby park, having their faces covered with hoods and wearing black clothes. One of the three youths placed a metal object in his neck, hit him with his elbow on the back and immediately fled the scene in an unknown direction.

At the same time, the other two people stole from the complainant his wallet, which included the amount of 150 euros, they also stole his mobile phones. After the two young unknown persons stole the complainant's property, they fled the scene on foot in an eastbound direction.

At the same time, two other unknown persons, who also had their faces covered, stole the complainant's motorcycle and headed in an unknown direction.

From the attack, the complainant was not injured and did not wish to see a doctor.

It is recalled that, recently, incidents of attacks against food distributors have increased alarmingly. Two windows of the multipurpose hall and the glass of the canteen of Prodromos Primary School in Larnaka were broken by unknown people, who also spray-painted slogans against the police on the walls.

According to the Police, on the afternoon of Saturday, January 18, it was reported to the Minor Offences Department of the Larnaka Police Directorate, by the School Board, that unknown persons caused damage to the Prodromos Primary School.

Members of the Police went to the school last night and this morning and examinations revealed that unknown persons broke two windows of the multipurpose hall and the glass of the canteen, but without entering the specific areas.

The unidentified people also spray-painted slogans against the police on the walls of the school.

Members of the force received a number of documents to be sent for scientific examination in an effort to identify the perpetrators.

The school does not have a CCTV system, but police are examining the surrounding area to gather information to solve the case.

Strangers had vandalized the school again a few months ago.

The Larnaca Minor Offences Department continues the examinations.

Cyprus Police

Two individuals, aged 22 and 37, were arrested by members of the Police, in connection with two cases of burglaries and thefts that were being investigated in Limassol. Specifically, this concerns a case of a burglary of a restaurant, from which a small amount of money was stolen, as well as a case of a burglary of an EAC building, from which 13 EAC meters were stolen. According to the information under investigation, the burglary at the restaurant was committed on September 4, 2024, while the burglary at the EAC building was committed between December 30, 2024 and January 3, 2025. On Saturday afternoon, members of the Limassol Police Department proceeded, pursuant to court warrants, to the arrest of a 22-year-old man, following information that emerged regarding the burglary at the restaurant, as well as the arrest of a 37-year-old woman, following information that emerged regarding the burglary at the EAC building. The two suspects were taken into custody, with the Limassol Police Department investigating the two separate cases.
