CHANGES IN THE PRICES OF 2315 MEDICINES FROM FEBRUARY

Filenews 21 January 2025 - by Marilena Panayi

Increases or decreases in the prices of 2,315 medicines arise after the revision of the price list of Cyprus by the Ministry of Health. The new prices, increased or reduced, will apply from February 3 and accordingly, in some cases, will affect the amount of "contribution II" that citizens pay to private pharmacies when they obtain their medicines through the General Health System (GHS).

According to the official data of the pharmaceutical services of the Ministry of Health, a total of 3,245 medicines were updated. Of these, 1,827 showed a decrease in their wholesale price, 488 showed an increase and 930 medicines had prices stable.

Out of a total of 6,081 medicines included in the price list, the prices of 2,836 medicines are not revised since they either belong to the category of cheap medicines, i.e. they are sold at prices below €10 or they are non-prescription drugs whose prices are determined by the market and not by the Ministry of Health.

The price list of medicines is reviewed every year and applies on February 1st of each year.

As far as the GHS is concerned, these variations (increases or decreases) are currently being adjusted and the numbers of medicines whose amounts paid by patients when they obtain them through the System will change, will be announced in the coming days.
