YELLOW WEATHER WARNING CONTINUES UNTIL NOON TODAY

A yellow warning remains in effect until 12 noon today.

According to the Department of Meteorology, rains and isolated storms will continue to affect the Cyprus region from time to time.   

At the same time, according to the Police, the roads leading to Troodos (Platron - Troodos, Karvouna - Troodos and Prodromos - Troodos) are open ONLY for vehicles equipped with anti-skid chains or with four-wheel drive, due to snowfall.  

Also, open but with landslides of rocks and soil masses are the roads Kykkos-Pedoulas and Kampos-Orkoda.

Detailed weather report 

The barometric low called ELENA and centered in Crete, is moving east and will continue to affect the island until Friday, while a new disturbance is expected on Sunday.

Today the weather will be mainly cloudy at times with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, but also with periods of improvement. In a storm, hail may fall and winds may increase and change, while snowfall is expected in the higher mountains. Locally, transiently increased low cloud or even fog may occur. Winds will be mainly southeast to southwest, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient to moderate, 4 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough to rough and locally slightly rough. The temperature will rise to around 17 degrees in the interior and on the coasts and around 5 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost will be maintained locally.

Tonight the weather will continue to be cloudy, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. In a storm, hail may fall and the winds will strengthen and change, while in the higher mountains it will snow. Locally, there may be transient increased low cloud or even fog. Winds will be mainly southeast to southerly and locally variable, light to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and transient to windward moderate, 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally be a bit rough. The temperature will drop to around 6 degrees in the interior, around 10 on the coasts and around 1 degree in the higher mountains. In the mountainous areas, frost is expected to form locally.

On Friday, the weather will be mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, but a noticeable improvement is expected from the late afternoon. In a storm, hail may fall, while in the higher mountains it will snow. On Saturday, the weather will initially be mostly sunny, but gradually the clouds will increase and in the afternoon isolated rains or even a storm are expected. On Sunday, the weather will gradually become cloudy and local rains and isolated storms are expected mainly after noon. Hail may fall in a storm, while snow or sleet is expected in the higher mountains.

The temperature on Friday will see a slight drop, to fluctuate slightly below normal levels. On Saturday the temperature will rise slightly and on Sunday there will be no significant change, in order to return close to the average climatic values.

The height of the snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issuing the bulletin, was 2 cm.
