STUDY FOR WATER REFINERY FOR LATCHI AND NEO CHORIO

The Water Development Department is preparing a study for the construction of a fast refinery unit to meet the water supply needs of the municipal district of Neo Chorio, with the provision that this unit will also cover the tourist area of Latchi.

According to information, the project is in the study phase and the initial capacity of drinking water production will be 1500 cubic meters per day, with the possibility of expansion up to 2500 cubic meters. The completion of the project is expected in 2026 at a cost of €350,000 and will be covered by the state budget. The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, during his recent tour of the area, informed the residents and officials of the apartment that the preparation of a Microzone Study for Polis Chrysochous, with a budget of €170,000, is in progress, with a timetable for completion by 2027.

This study aims at better anti-seismic design of structures in the area and will contribute significantly to enhancing infrastructure safety. It is worth mentioning that, within the framework of this action, an assessment of the current situation regarding water scarcity in the region is also being carried out.

Specifically, in 2025, drilling is expected to start in the communities of Makounta, Filousa Chrysochous, Lysos, Peristerona and Pelathousa, in order to meet the increasing water supply needs.
