We have an obligation as a State to offer our citizens, whether they are in Polis Chrysochous, Pyrgos Tyllirias or anywhere in Cyprus, the same opportunities, said today the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.
In statements to journalists in the afternoon, arriving at the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, as part of his tour of municipalities and communities, the President of the Republic said that "as I promised before the elections, they visit all areas.
The area of Polis Chrysochous is an area of particular importance, it is an area that has special prospects and needs the substantial support of the State, in addition to what has been done.
I am here to discuss projects that have been implemented, that are in the process of being implemented, that will be done, worth €35 million, not counting the expansion of the port, worth €50 million, that will be done by the Port Authority.
I also know that the big issue, quite rightly, is the Pafos-Polis Chrysochous road. We will discuss, I will make some announcements, some reports. A path that, in order to have value, must be done in its entirety, both phases. And that's our design.
It was an unpleasant development to terminate the contract, it was not something we wanted of course, but as a result it was something that had to be done.
We are planning to start immediately and, I repeat, the important thing is to carry out the whole project, from Paphos to Polis Chrysochous.
So, we are talking about projects, along with the expansion of the port, with a total value of €85 million, that concern the wider region and I will be happy to discuss with both the authorities and the citizens what else we need to do as a State to support this region. In particular, I know, coming from Pyrgos Tyllirias, that the sectors of Health and Education are priorities, they are also for us, but this area also has huge prospects for Tourism and as a State we have an obligation to create all that infrastructure, precisely, to exploit this unique advantage".
In a journalist's remark that in a letter the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous asked the Government for the creation of a new Hospital, the President of the Republic said "let me remind you that a few days ago we held a special meeting with the SHSO and announced specifically for First Aid in hospitals throughout Cyprus, of course including Polis Chrysochous, millions of euros, so that we can move forward.
I said on my own that Health and Education are the areas that we do not negotiate. We have an obligation as a State to offer our citizens, whether they are in Polis Chrysochous or Pyrgos Tyllirias, anywhere in Cyprus, the same opportunities. And you will hear specific references to this issue in my speech as well."
