The Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Yiotis Papachristofi, sent a letter to the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides on Monday, saying that the Municipality disagrees with the "partial upgrade of the Hospital", as this "entails overshadowing the request for the construction of a new modern Hospital".
Mr. Papachristofi said that among the projects announced by the President during his visit to the City on December 7, is the upgrade of the Polis Chrysochous Hospital by 2026 and specifically the full upgrade and operation of the Radiology Department and the creation of a Short-Term Care Department, with an expenditure of €400,000.
As a Municipality "we express our disagreement with the partial upgrade of the Hospital at an expense of almost half a million. This entails overshadowing the demand for the construction of a new modern hospital," he said.
He reiterated that the area of Polis Chrysochous is a remote area, which should receive the support of the state and the state, which is why they ask "for a review of the request for a political decision to support the right of the residents of the remote district of Polis Chrysochous to provide proper medical care and care in a modern hospital".
At the same time, he said that with the creation of a new modern Hospital, a Rehabilitation Unit can operate, the creation of which is offered in their area due to the good and favorable climate that exists. He also said that the Rehabilitation Unit can accommodate not only Cypriot but also European citizens, since, he noted, there is no equivalent unit in the public sector today in Cyprus.
Finally, he announced that as a Municipality they are willing to contribute both to finding a plot for the new Hospital, as well as to its design and implementation in case their request is accepted.
Finally, he expressed his gratitude to the DP for his recent presence in the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous but also for his announcement to support the Municipality in the implementation of projects and actions in the remote area of Polis Chrysochous.
