Filenews 15 December 2024
A seven-day campaign of checks to tackle driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs begins next Monday, December 16, by the Police.
The campaign will last until December 22 and will extend to the entire road network of Cyprus, 24 hours a day. During the event, checks will be intensified to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs, while at the same time checks will continue for other road offences, especially those proven to be responsible for causing fatal and serious road collisions.
The campaign will be conducted simultaneously in the rest of Europe, in the framework of the cooperation of the Cyprus Police with the European Traffic Police Network ROADPOL.
Alcohol and/or drug use reduces driver performance and increases the risk of being involved in a road collision accordingly. It is well known that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is one of the four main causes of fatal and serious road collisions.
For this reason, police checks on the road network to deal with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs are carried out daily, throughout the year.
