The water dissolution plants at the Kanavious and Asprokremmos dams will cover the water supply needs of the Pafos district until next summer after the destruction by fire of the district's desalination plant. The issue was discussed today at the Water Development Department.
There will be no interruption of the water supply of the city and district of Pafos, assures the director of the Ministry of Agriculture. The effort being made, he stresses, is not only to reopen by the summer the fixed unit that has been destroyed, but also additional mobile units.
Within the week, officials from the fire department, the department of electrical and mechanical services and other government departments will attempt to enter the destroyed building of the desalination plant in order to reach safe conclusions about the cause of the fire. It will be preceded by the removal of hazardous materials on the roof while the static of the building will be checked.
According to estimates so far, the fire started from the storage area inside the factory where flammable materials were stored and spread rapidly.
