ONLINE REGISTRATION OF CHILDREN IN PRIMARY AND KINDERGARTENS - WHEN WILL THEY TAKE PLACE?

 Filenews 13 December 2024

In January, student registrations for the school year 2025-2026 will be conducted electronically in Public Primary Schools and Kindergartens.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the enrolment of Grade A students for the school year 2025-2026 in Public Primary Schools will be conducted electronically from January 7, 2025 until January 19, 2025.

Registrations/transfers to Public Kindergartens and Primary Schools (for grades B-F), for the school year 2025-2026, will take place as last school year. Specifically, student registrations will take place from 13 to 17 January 2025.

Enrolment/transfer of students in the first grade of Public Primary School for the school year 2025-2026

According to the announcement, in the context of e-government, with the aim of modernizing existing procedures and upgrading the services provided, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth will implement this year, for the first time, a new electronic system for enrolment/transfers in the first grade of Primary School.

Specifically, the enrolment of Grade A students for the school year 2025-2026 in Public Primary Schools will be conducted electronically from January 7, 2025 until January 19, 2025.

In order for Grade A students to be able to register during this period, parents/guardians must create an account at CY Login from December 18, 2024 until January 6, 2025 and then create their profile in the online registration system.

There will be no new registration period, except for students who for good reason could not register during the above period.

No school will approve additional classes than those resulting from January registrations. Therefore, parents/guardians who do not register their children during the registration period will be obliged to enrol them in the nearest school in their area, where there will be vacancies.

Applications for transfer of Grade A students will be submitted electronically by parents/guardians from 22 to 26 January 2025.

Students of Grade A who present themselves for registration after January 19, 2025 or for transfer after January 26, 2025, should contact the relevant District Education Office (E.G.P.) to guide them on the procedure they should follow for the late submission of an application for registration/transfer.

The Unified All-Day Schools (EOS) have compulsory attendance until 15:05 or until 16:00 (except Wednesdays where the hours 7:45 to 13:05 apply, with the exception of the Primary School of Agios Antonios which has five-day afternoon attendance). There is only one departure time for all students of each EGTC. Parents/guardians who cannot meet this timetable should request registration/transfer to another school within the enrolment/transfer schedules.

Please note that parents/guardians will be able to apply for transfer as soon as they have been informed by the school that their registration has been approved.

All children, of any nationality, residing in Cyprus, regardless of the legal or non-legal residence of their parents/guardians on the island, have the right to register.

Children born between September 1, 2018 and August 31, 2019 are accepted for enrolment in Grade A.

The revised educational districts, for the school year 2025-2026, have been posted on the website of the Ministry of Education, in order to check the addresses of the students' residences, which are presented for registration: http://www.moec.gov.cy/dde/ekpaideftikes_perifereies_2025_26.html.

Education districts are registered in the eCMP online system, so during the application process for enrolling a child in Grade A, the system will automatically show the school where the child needs to be enrolled, based on his/her home address. If a child's home address is not registered in the system, parents/guardians are requested to contact the relevant GSP so that the child's street can be registered and registration is possible.

All students are enrolled at the Primary School of their educational district unless they have older siblings, who are attending grades A-E this school year. In this case, parents/guardians are invited to contact the school their older children attend, if it is not the school of their educational district, to instruct them how to enroll the child of the first grade without the need for the transfer process.

The examination of transfer applications will take place between 27 January and 7 February 2025. There will be no further transfer review period.

The approval or rejection of the transfer application will be done through the electronic system. That is, through the system, both parents/guardians and affected schools will be informed. The child who has been approved for transfer is transferred from the system to his new school. So you don't need to re-enroll in the new school.

Enrolment/transfers in Public Kindergartens and Primary Schools (grades B-F) for the school year 2025-2026

Registrations/transfers to Public Kindergartens and Primary Schools (for grades B-F), for the school year 2025-2026, will take place as last school year.

Specifically, student registrations will take place from 13 to 17 January 2025. There will be no new registration period, except for students who for good reason could not register during the above period.

According to the announcement of the Ministry of Education, no school will approve additional classes than those resulting from the January registrations (January 13-17, 2025). Therefore, parents/guardians who do not register their children during the registration period will be obliged to enrol them in the nearest school in their area, where there will be vacancies.

Transfer applications are submitted during the registration period, i.e. from 13 to 17 January 2025.

Students who present themselves for registration or transfer after January 17, 2025, should contact the relevant District Education Office (EYP). In these cases, parents/guardians may send the relevant forms (YPAN PBA 11 for registration and/or YPAN PBA 33 for transfer) and other documents/certificates/supporting documents that they must submit to justify their request, via fax or e-mail, to the relevant GSP, without their physical presence. The GSP will inform affected schools of new enrolments or transfers.

It is clarified that applications for registration/transfer to the relevant GSP are submitted only by parents/guardians of children of primary school age and compulsory pre-primary age (45/12 – 6 years old) and not by parents/guardians of younger children.

It is stated that the Unified All-Day Schools (EOS) have compulsory attendance until 15:05 or until 16:00 (except Wednesdays where the hours of 7:45 to 13:05 apply, with the exception of the Primary School of Agios Antonios which has five-day afternoon attendance). There is only one departure time for all students of each ERA. Parents/guardians who cannot meet this timetable should request enrolment/transfer to another school within the enrolment/transfer schedules (13-17 January 2025).

All children, of any nationality, residing in Cyprus, regardless of the legal or non-legal residence of their parents/guardians on the island, have the right to register.

Children born between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020 are accepted for enrolment in the Pre-primary class. Children born between September 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021 are accepted for enrolment in Compulsory Pre-Primary Education.

Children born between April 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022 can also submit applications for enrolment in Public Pre-primary Schools.

The revised educational districts, for the school year 2025-2026, have been posted on the website of the Ministry of Education, in order to check the addresses of the students' residences, which are presented for registration: http://www.moec.gov.cy/dde/ekpaideftikes_perifereies_2025_26.html.

If a child's home address is not registered on the aforementioned website, parents/guardians are requested to contact the relevant GSP so that the child's street can be registered and its registration is possible.

All new students are enrolled in the Kindergarten or Primary School of their educational district unless they have older siblings in a Primary School who are attending grades A-E this school year. In this case, they declare the name of their older child in the form YPAN PBA 11 and enrol the younger child in the Primary School attended by the older sibling or in the Kindergarten adjacent to the school attended by the older sibling, and not in the school that is their educational district, without the need for the transfer process.

Applications for transfer are submitted by parents/guardians to the schools of their educational district at the time of registration.

The examination of transfer applications will take place between 27 January and 7 February 2025. There will be no further transfer review period. For approved or unapproved transfers, the relevant GSPs will inform the affected schools by fax, no later than 11 February 2025.

For all children, the schools where the children were enrolled are invited to inform the affected parents during the period 12-13 February 2025 so that, within one week, they can get the documents from one school and enroll in the other school or make an objection, if they wish. No pending registrations/transfers must remain after 20 February 2025.

Enrolment of children aged 3-4 5/12 in public Kindergarten Classes

According to an announcement, applications for enrolment in Public Pre-primary Schools can also be submitted by children younger than 3 – 4 5/12 years old, ie children born between April 1, 2021 and August 31, 2022.

Applications can be made to any kindergarten in the period 13-17 January 2025. It is noted, however, that in the process of selecting children, priority will be given to children in the educational district of the kindergarten.

The application is submitted in the form YPAN PBA 30 "Application for enrolment in Public/Public and Community Kindergarten for children aged 3 – 4 5/12 years". The form is placed, together with the necessary documents/certificates, in a closed envelope. Then, parents/guardians throw the envelope into the special box that will be located, for this purpose, in a protected area of the school.

It is emphasized that, in case the child is enrolled in a Kindergarten outside his/her educational region, this does not ensure his/her continuation of attendance at the same school when it will be compulsory pre-primary age (4 5/12 – 6 years old), nor does it give any advantage over other children when examining his/her possible application for transfer. For this reason, it is recommended that the application be submitted to the Kindergarten of his/her educational district, so that the child can continue his/her education at the same school.

It is clarified that applications for transfer are not made by parents/guardians of children of this age.

It is noted that children of this age category who will not be able to secure a place in the Kindergarten they applied for, reserve the right to claim a place in another kindergarten that has vacancies. In this case, parents should attach to their new application the form "Not securing a place to attend a Public Kindergarten", which will be sent to them by the Kindergarten they originally applied for, so that their new application will be considered on time.

The selection of children 3 – 4 5/12 years old for attendance at Public Kindergartens is based on approved criteria and depending on the age category in which each child falls: B ́ category: 4 – 4 5/12 years old (1 April 2021 – 31 August 2021) and C ́ category: 3 – 4 years old (1 September 2021 – 31 August 2022).

The PBA 30 form can be obtained from the school or from the website of the Ministry of Education: http://www.moec.gov.cy/dde/entypa.html.
