The Municipal Council of the Municipality of Ierokipia, in an extraordinary session, decided to proceed with legal action against the Pafos District Self-Government Organization and the Consortium for the operation and maintenance of the Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Municipality of Ierokipia is obliged to make this move, according to a relevant announcement, as despite its repeated steps for five months, the sewage system of the Pafos EDA continues to flood and manholes located on Germaninas Street next to the Municipal Beach of Geroskipou continue to overflow, resulting in a large volume of sewage ending up in the sea. The problem has existed for over a decade and, because the situation has reached the breaking point, the Municipality of Ierokipia states that it will do whatever it takes to hold those responsible accountable and defend the interests of the Municipality and the safety of citizens. Due to the situation created due to the problem, the Municipality of Ierokipia informs the public that this road will be closed to vehicles, as it has become inaccessible.
The public is also asked to avoid swimming in this area for reasons of safeguarding public health. For his part, the president of the Pafos EDA assures that measures are already being taken. Charalambos Pittokopitis described as justified the reactions to the problematic operation of the last pumping station before the biological unit of the former SAPA. Mr. Pittokopitis announced that he has been in personal contact with the owners of the consortium that manages the Biological Unit of SAPA and have, as he said, "admitted that there are problems in the pumping station they manage, where four pumps operated until recently."
He also said that from the personal contact he had with the owners of the company that manages the Biological Unit, they assured him that they are taking measures to immediately restore the smooth operation of the pumping station and expects that within the day the problems that occurred in the last month will be removed.
