CRIME ROUND UP

 Pafos Live 29 December 2024

A man was found shortly before noon yesterday on the floor of an elevator hatch of a two-storey building in the coastal area of Kissonerga. All indications pointed to an accident.

The dead man was found by a painter who had gone to the construction site around 11 a.m. to work. The body was lying face down on the floor of the elevator hatch and according to police investigations his death was caused by falling from a great height.

Police collected CCTV evidence in the area, some of which recorded the victim's movements around eight last night. It is noted that pieces of copper and cables that had been torn down from the installation of the house under construction were found inside the building.  Police said the victim had a bag with burglary tools, while cut wires and copper pipes were found on the second floor of the building from which he fell.

Police arrested two foreigners aged 23 and 25 yesterday, as part of an investigation into a case concerning, inter alia, offences of conspiracy to commit a felony, causing actual bodily harm and robbery.

According to a complaint made on 26/12/2024, two persons aged 34 and 25, on the same day were attacked by a food distributor, who along with four other persons, beat them with sticks and stones, caused damage inside the house and stole a mobile phone and a purse with a small amount of money.

According to the complainants, the delivery man shortly before handed them food they ordered, but because there was a delay in delivery, the food was cold and they complained to him. Then, after 15 minutes, the delivery man returned with four other persons and attacked them.

The two complainants went to Paphos General Hospital where they received first aid and were discharged. The 34-year-old received a sutured head wound, while the 24-year-old has a fractured arm and abrasions on his head and hands.  The two arrested appeared yesterday before the Pafos District Court, which issued an eight-day detention order.
