More than 2,600 traffic violations were detected and reported during traffic checks carried out by members of the Police, throughout Cyprus, from 02/12/2024 to 08/12/2024.
The members of the Police, in the context of traffic police checks carried out throughout Cyprus, proceeded to 777 complaints concerning exceeding the speed limit, 201 complaints for failure to use seat belts by drivers and passengers, 9 complaints for not using a protective helmet and 202 complaints for using a mobile phone while driving. There were also 51 complaints for drink-driving, 51 complaints for illegal parking and 49 for parking in disabled areas and 1290 complaints for other traffic offences.
Traffic checks continue daily, with the aim of preventing fatal and serious road collisions and consolidating proper road awareness by all road users.

The sum of €50,185 was received in early December by the Pafos Police Authority's Warrant Collection Unit in the context of an operation to execute warrants that were pending in the area of the Pafos district.
According to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nicolaou, the operation was carried out in the Paphos district between the dates of 2 to 6 December 2024.
During the campaign, 232 fine warrants were executed and the sum of €50,185 was collected, he said.
These campaigns will continue at regular intervals, he concluded.

A new armed robbery took place at a kiosk in the Nicosia area.
Speaking on state radio, police communications officer Eleni Constantinou said the robbery took place at a kiosk in Nicosia around 4:30 a.m.
Specifically, masked men entered the kiosk and pointed a pistol, and then extorted money from the cash register and left.
Police are investigating the robbery.

Police in Limassol were placed on red alert after a grenade was found in a building in the Germasogeia area.
According to initial information from the Police, a citizen found this morning, in the exterior of the building and specifically in the engine room, a grenade.
The authorities were immediately informed, who rushed to the spot.
The building, which housed company offices, was evacuated and workers evacuated, while the area was cordoned off. A police pyrotechnician rushed to the scene for on-site examinations.

Members of the Limassol Cycling Police arrested yesterday a 20-year-old man, whom they found driving a stolen motorcycle. The 20-year-old, who was detained for police examinations, is being investigated in a case of theft of another motorcycle, which has also already been found by members of the Police.
The 20-year-old suspect was spotted by members of the Cycling Policing, driving without a protective helmet and parking a motorcycle, on a road in Limassol, around 11.30 noon today.
After the 20-year-old noticed the members of the Cycling Police, he fled, but the members of the Police stopped him and proceeded to arrest him, for the offense of illegal possession of property, since the motorcycle had been reported to the Police, on December 03, as stolen.
The motorcycle, according to its owner, was stolen around 5.30 pm, on December 03, in an area in the Nicosia district. As part of the investigation of the theft case, a court arrest warrant had been issued against the 20-year-old by the ICF of Nicosia.
Following his arrest, the 20-year-old was taken to the ICF of Limassol, where he was also arrested with a court warrant, which had been issued in the context of an investigation by the ICF of Limassol, of a case of theft of another motorcycle.
According to a complaint submitted to the Police on December 4 by the owner of the motorcycle, it was stolen around 5.00 in the afternoon of the same day, in an area in the Limassol district. The motorcycle was found by members of the Police on the evening of December 04, in an area in the district of Larnaca.
In addition to the two theft cases investigated by the ICF of Limassol and the ICF of Nicosia, a case of traffic violations is being investigated against the 20-year-old by the Limassol Traffic Police, since the 20-year-old does not hold a driving license and was driving the stolen motorcycle without himself being covered by an insurance certificate.

A 21-year-old man, who was wanted in connection with an ongoing case of attempted murder and acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, offences that according to the evidence under investigation, were allegedly committed in Nicosia, on December 07, 2024, against a 46-year-old man. The case is being investigated by the ICF of Nicosia.
According to the evidence under investigation, at around 10.30 pm on Saturday, 07 December, while a 46-year-old man was on a sidewalk outside his home in Nicosia district, a car driver turned his vehicle against him, hit him and then fled the scene. The 46-year-old was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where he was detained for treatment with leg injuries.
Examinations conducted by members of the Police revealed evidence against the 21-year-old suspect and a judicial arrest warrant was issued against him. He was located and arrested on the morning of Tuesday, December 10, 2024, by members of the Nicosia Police. Subsequently, he was brought before the Nicosia District Court, which approved a relevant request by the Police and issued an eight-day detention order for the purpose of investigating the case.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at Larnaka airport, who according to the police had 22 kilos of cannabis in his luggage.
The 23-year-old arrived at Larnaka airport on a flight from abroad this morning.
After collecting information, and with the cooperation of members of the Customs Department and the Police, the young man underwent a search, as a result of which a number of packages of cannabis with a total gross weight of 22 kg were allegedly found in his luggage.
The 23-year-old was arrested for the offences of importing, possessing drugs with intent to supply to other people.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Larnaca District Court for a detention order.
