The implementation of the major project of creating a modern four-lane avenue from the Tombs of the Kings in Kato Paphos to Coral Bay in Peyia is the great new challenge of the local authorities of the western area of Pafos. Government departments, researchers and local authorities have now begun coordinated work to make possible a project of major importance that has been on paper for many years.
The aim is to create a modern quadruple highway, which meets all modern standards of safety and service to citizens. For this purpose, the first meeting on the issue was held in the summer at the Ministry of Transport and in early September the second, in Pegeia, with the aim of coordinating the state services and the designers of the project. From these first contacts, it is estimated that before the Christmas holidays, the master plan will take its final form.
The upgrading of this road artery and the creation, essentially, of a quadruple road avenue, is of major importance for the entire low area of Pafos, the Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, stressed to PafosNet, given that it is a coastal area in which almost 40% of the tourist accommodation in the province is concentrated.
However, until now, he pointed out, the existing road does not provide ideal levels of safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, while in many parts it does not even have lighting and sidewalks.
The goal set is to start construction of the project within 2026, Mr. Lambrou stressed, expressing the will of the Municipality of Akamas to contribute as much as it can for the faster implementation of the major project.
