THE COLD IS SLOWLY GOING AWAY - THE TEMPERATURE IS RISING

 Filenews 26 November 2024

Good weather conditions are expected to roll through the rest of the week with long periods of mostly clear weather, however temporarily increased clouds mainly tonight may give a few isolated rains or even light snowfall in Troodos.

The temperature will gradually rise from today until the end of the week, to return to normal levels for the season from Friday onwards. There is a possibility of a new disorder within the next week, but the situation will begin to clear up in the next 24 hours.

In the afternoon, in most areas of the island, the weather will be mostly clear, but gradually increased clouds will be observed in places, which later in the mountains, may give light snowfall. The winds will blow mainly southwest to northwest, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will generally be up to a little turbulent.

Tonight, the weather will be partly cloudy and in places temporarily mostly cloudy, while isolated showers are expected, mainly on the west and north coasts and possibly in an inland area, while in the mountains there may be light snowfall. The winds will gradually become descending, weak, 3 Beaufort. The sea will generally be calm to a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 8 degrees in the interior, around 9 degrees on the coast and around minus 2 degrees in the higher mountains, where frost is expected to form locally.

Tomorrow Wednesday, in the morning hours there will be locally increased clouds which may give isolated rain to the west and north coasts. However, progressively, the weather will become partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy, while isolated rains are expected, mainly in the mountains. Locally in the higher mountains, sleet may fall. The winds will blow mainly northeast to southeast and in the west transient southwest, weak to moderate and temporarily moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea in the morning will be generally calm to a little turbulent, however gradually in the north and east it will become a little turbulent. The temperature will rise around 16 degrees in the interior, around 18 degrees on the coast and around 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, locally increased clouds will be observed from time to time, which during the midday hours and after, may give isolated rains, mainly in the mountains.

The temperature will gradually rise until Friday and on Saturday it will remain at the same levels, to fluctuate close to the average climatic values of the season.

The height of snow in Troodos Square, at the time of issue of the bulletin, was 1 cm.

On Saturday, an isolated low in the middle troposphere will affect the central Mediterranean/Balkans.

In our area again, no change is expected in the weather scene, which will initially be sunny, while at noon and in the afternoon a few local clouds will develop in the mountainous / semi-mountainous areas.

The temperature will rise slightly, to fluctuate around normal levels for the season, reaching around 18 to 20 degrees Celsius in inland lowland parts of the island, around 19 to 21 degrees Celsius on the coast and around 7 degrees Celsius in Chionistra.

From Sunday onwards, there is uncertainty as to where the cut-off low-to-middle troposphere in the central Mediterranean/Balkans will head. If it moves towards our area, we will be affected in the early to middle of next week, with the weather remaining good on Sunday. The situation will become clear in the next 24 hours. The temperature will not change significantly on Sunday.

It should be noted that although the maximum temperatures will gradually rise noticeably in the coming days, the minimum temperatures will rise less due to the fact that temperature inversions are expected in the evenings in several areas, resulting in the cold continuing.
