Filenews 25 November 2024
Stormy and destructive winds of up to 7 Beaufort intensity persist in causing problems as they pound our island. As the director of the Department of Meteorology, Filippos Tymvios, told Filenews, during the day there will be local rain, snowfall and at night frost, as a cold air mass affects our region. Temperatures will remain low until at least Christmas, he said.
Gradually, however, Mr. Tymvios notes that the winds are weakening and that they will range until tomorrow to moderate at 4 Beaufort. This is because the low pressure that affects us is receding to the east.
Today, local rain and sleet are expected in the mountains during the day. "The snow that fell so far was a very small amount," he said, adding that there was plenty of water. "Rainfall has reached 150% for this month, not counting weekend figures." Temperatures, he told us, will remain low and below normal levels until at least Christmas.
