The competent state services have now completed their detailed investigation into the circumstances that led to the destruction of one of the most important and recognizable landmarks of Pafos, the historic building that dominates the triangle of the Town Hall Square, the Public Garden and Eros Square in the historic center of the city, during the fire that broke out on October 15.
Information from "F" states that the completion of the investigation does not reveal any "grey zones", with the official report confirming the very first assessments of those responsible for a fire that broke out accidentally due to the defective operation of part of the equipment of a company housed there and that expanded rapidly due to the many flammable materials and large wooden parts of the building.
Following this, according to our own information, the baton is now in the hands of the insurance companies contracted with the two companies operating in the building in order to decide the compensation that the latter will receive and accordingly to begin the work of restoring the historic building.
The fire completely destroyed the building on the first floor. On the ground floor the damage is less than on the first floor, since on the last floor the destruction was accelerated and magnified by the wooden roof that immediately caught fire. The timely intervention of the fire brigade managed to protect the restaurant on the ground floor, with the damage there limited and the risk to human lives avoided.
The first floor, however, suffered total destruction, as the wooden roof collapsed, while serious damage was caused to its contents and equipment. Recently, it housed offices of a private company, while the area is inextricably intertwined with the historic sports club of Pafos, APOP, which for decades maintained its offices there.
We remind you that the key part of the outcome of any processes of insurance companies with their customers had been highlighted the day after the great fire by the Mayor of Pafos, Phedon Phedonos, stressing that when this aspect is completed, the work of restoring the historic building to its previous form will now be a matter of a few months.
