After many attempts, the construction of an above-ground pedestrian bridge on Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue in Paphos is progressing and is now essentially in the construction phase.
This was announced today by Pafos MP Chrysanthos Savvides, who had raised the necessity of constructing the project to protect the hundreds of students, mainly, of the schools located by this busy road.
According to the last briefing, he stressed, it was decided that the construction of an overpass will be promoted for reasons of traffic safety of pedestrians in the area and especially students of schools in the area.
The process includes the preparation of a simplified plan of the overpass by the Department of Town Planning and Housing, he clarified. Then the necessary approvals will follow and the construction plans will be prepared by the Department of Public Works or, alternatively, the construction will proceed through the design/construction method.
According to Chrysanthos Savvides, the project will be promoted as an urban road project, with funding at a rate of 80% from the budget of the Department of Town Planning and Housing and 20% from the budget of the Municipality of Pafos.
He said ''I am very pleased with this decision, as it is a project of paramount importance for the safety of pedestrians, and especially students, who are our top priority, he concluded. For my part, I will do my utmost to speed up the procedures and complete the construction of the project as soon as possible''.
