The person who gave the bag with the small amount of methamphetamine to the convict's mother, so that she could hand it over to him, was identified by the investigators of YKAN Limassol proceeding to his arrest immediately. He is a 37-year-old person, known to the authorities, who was brought before the Limassol Court on Tuesday morning (5/11), with the members of the YKAN applying for a detention order for a period of 8 days.
The suspect's lawyer, Katia Pieroudi, objected to the 8-day detention period requested by the police, saying that the time is excessive. Eventually, the Court ordered the 37-year-old to be detained for 4 days.
According to "F", the members of the YKAN obtained testimony against the 37-year-old, who allegedly received instructions from the convict to supply his mother with drugs, so that the latter would deliver them to him when she met him outside the courtroom.
As reported yesterday by "F", the mother of the convict was released to be charged at a later stage. The elderly woman, unaware of the dangers and the fact that she was being watched by police officers, gave her son a wrapped €50 note, inside which was a small bag with a quantity of methamphetamine. The mother's movement towards her son was noticed with the sequel being known.

A Limassol court yesterday sentenced a 43-year-old driver to 18 months in prison for causing the death of 89-year-old pedestrian Iosif Diakou on Misiaoulli and Kavazoglou Street four years ago.
Judge Doria Varoshiotou found the defendant guilty on 20 October 2024 of causing death by reckless or dangerous act, in violation of Article 210 of the Criminal Code.
The fatal accident occurred around 6:30 am on 20 March 2020, when the defendant was driving eastbound on Misiaoulli and Kavazoglou Street. The elderly pedestrian was crossing from south to north and had already reached the middle of the road when he was struck.
The court found that despite having unlimited visibility and sufficient reaction time within 60 metres, the driver failed to notice the pedestrian. “When he finally saw him and applied the brakes, it was too late, as the victim was thrown onto the windscreen, hit the bonnet and tragically died after falling onto the tarmac”, the judge noted in her ruling.
While the defence counsel pleaded for leniency citing the defendant’s clean criminal record and ongoing psychiatric treatment for the past three years, Judge Varosiotou dismissed the expression of remorse, stating: “This carries no weight as the defendant denied guilt and was found guilty after trial”.
The court noted that while there were no aggravating factors and the defendant was driving within the speed limit at 49 km/h, the victim had chosen not to use a pedestrian crossing located 94 metres east of the accident site.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed 10 penalty points on the defendant’s driving licence and rejected the defence’s suggestion for a suspended sentence.
