Following information and several posts on social media, mass disappearances of healthy cats continue, most of which are neutered, as denounced by the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation.
In a statement, the Movement reminds that according to the law, it is forbidden to release or abandon an animal under human care in order to get rid of it.
It is also forbidden to possess and use traps or other means to capture stray animals with malicious intent, even to kill them.
It adds that the deliberate poisoning of animals is illegal and severely punishable by law. According to Section 4 of the Animal Protection and Welfare Act, "it is prohibited for any person intentionally and without reasonable cause to administer or supply or permit the administration or supply of any poison or other noxious substance to any animal or to cause any animal to consume such substance."
The Movement stresses that poisons are banned and says that the police will be asked to conduct more intensive investigations into the supply of poisons from the occupied areas.
The Animal Action Group of the Green Movement has informed the police from time to time with relevant information and complaints.
The coordinator of the Animal Action Group of the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, in a written statement, appeals to "citizens who love animals to inform the police of any illegal act against animals they perceive. It is our obligation to protect them from any illegal action against them. The police must be zealous and cooperate with citizens to identify the culprits and enforce the law, which provides for a fine, imprisonment or both. Only then will we be able to talk about real animal protection and welfare."
