The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) on Monday announced the release of a silver collector’s coin with a nominal value of €5, minted in proof condition for 2024.

According to the announcement, only 2,000 pieces will be produced, priced at €52.

The coin will be released to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Cyprus joining the European Union.

In addition, the CBC said that the coin symbolises “Cyprus’ role as a force of creativity and development within the EU”, depicted through imagery of the EU flag and doves representing peace.

Additionally, the CBC will also release a €2 commemorative coin in circulation quality, limited to 7,000 pieces.

These will be presented in special cases and sold for €20 each.

The coin’s design includes the European Commission’s Brussels headquarters, a stylised globe symbolising Cyprus’ geopolitical significance, and its contribution to peace and prosperity.

Both coins were designed by artist George Stamatopoulos and minted by the Bank of Greece’s printing works department.

The coins will be available for purchase by professional coin dealers and non-profit organisations through an application process from November 18 to 24, 2024.

Moreover, applicants will be notified of the outcome by November 29, 2024, with the CBC reserving the right to reject applications without explanation.

Public sales will start on November 27, 2024, and will continue until December 20, 2024, subject to availability.

Purchases can be made directly at the CBC’s counters or through its online store. Buyers may initially acquire up to two coins per type at counters and online.

If any stock remains after December 20, restrictions will be lifted, and from 21 December onwards, all interested parties may purchase coins on a first-come, first-served basis.
