CYPRIOT AND MIGRANT WORKERS UNITED - Molos Amphitheatre, Limassol - 10 November, 4pm

 in-cyprus 5 November 2024

Progressive and leftist groups will hold a demonstration in Limassol on Sunday to protest the escalating racist violence against migrant delivery workers.

The protest, scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Molos Amphitheatre, comes amid increasing attacks on workers in the delivery sector.

Organisers are calling for government action to address the “almost daily” assaults on migrant workers. They are demanding stronger protection measures and an end to inflammatory rhetoric from state officials and media.

“The safety of workers should be considered an important part of the agreement between employer and employee and must be upheld”, the organisers said in a statement.

The demonstration aims to highlight both racial and labour rights concerns, with protesters demanding equal working conditions for migrant workers and increased protection during their shifts.

Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis revealed last week that police have recorded 18 racist attacks against delivery workers since January. The actual number could be at least twice as high due to underreporting.
