The Paphos Police proceeded to arrest a 58-year-old man to facilitate investigations for an investigated case of nighttime burglary and theft.

According to the Assistant Police Director of Paphos Operations Michalis Nikolaou, on 4.11.24 at around 1:30 in the morning a visitor, who was staying in a hotel in Kato Paphos, reported that her room was broken into in the evening and all the safe it contained was stolen various documents such as passports, credit cards and various other items, the value of which has not yet been calculated.

From the examinations, testimony emerged against a 58-year-old man, who worked as a technician at another hotel and who allegedly under some circumstances had a general anti-lock.

The person in question told KYPE that Mr. Nikolaou was arrested with a warrant, interrogated, confessed and the safe was found at his residence. He was subsequently charged in writing and released to be summoned at a later date.

Nicotine sachets are freely distributed in the market, causing concern among parents. 

The Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Elena Panagiotopoulou, was hosted in Protoselidos , who stated that they are harmful and consumed mainly by young people. "It's sublingual. That is, you put them under your tongue and the nicotine is absorbed through the mucous membrane of the mouth."

He added that the organization cannot accept these products.  

He pointed out that the Pharmaceutical Services took the issue to the Medicines Council which decided that these products are classified as pharmaceuticals and are strictly controlled. "Selling at kiosks is strictly prohibited."   

He emphasized that he will start an operation together with the Police to control the purchase of such products. "They are very dangerous for young people and for all people." 

He finally said that these products should not be released.

As part of their activity, the members of the Paphos district bicycle police made 47 out-of-court complaints in October, according to Paphos Assistant Police Director of Operations Michalis Nikolaou.

Instatements to the KYPE, Mr. Nikolaou said that in the same month the members of the cycling police in Paphos offered assistance to the public in 18 cases, carried out security measures during 9 events, carried out 14 stops and checks of suspicious persons and provided 16 cases of assistance to other departments and services of ADE Pafos.

They also provided advice to owners of shops and other premises on security measures for their property, gave advice to locals and tourists when needed and carried out checks in car parks to prevent car windows from being broken and stolen from them.  

During October, the members of the bicycle police continued to police the wider area of ​​Geroskipou for the prevention of crime, in foot patrols in the commercial sector of the city, in checking beaches in cooperation with the lifeguards on duty, as well as in providing assistance to the Paphos Minor Offenses Department . They even proceeded to post a guard at the main gate of the Paphos ADE, and also to examine the phone calls for the purpose of answering citizen hotline issues.

A 49-year-old man was arrested yesterday at Larnaka airport where he presented himself to depart for abroad, based on a court warrant pending against him.

Specifically, the 49-year-old is being investigated for the offences of extortion of money by false representations, forgery, circulation of a false document and money laundering.

The arrested man allegedly extorted a sum of money from another person for the purpose of buying real estate.

The 49-year-old was brought this morning before the Limassol District Court, which issued a two-day detention order.

He nearly killed an 80-year-old pedestrian while she was crossing at a crossing point, leaving her injured on the street. The reason is a 32-year-old man from Syria, who, driving recklessly and without a license, overtook cars, hit the 80-year-old on a crossing and then passed the traffic lights with a red light. The incident was even recorded by photo-tagging cameras.

The 32-year-old was wanted by the Limassol Traffic Police and was located yesterday afternoon. Under questioning, he admitted hitting the 80-year-old as she crossed a crosswalk and fled the scene, claiming he was scared. Not all this was enough, as he also passed through a red light, with the photo-tagging cameras recording it.

The accident happened on the morning of November 1 on Nikos Pattichi Street, with the 80-year-old seriously injured in various parts of her body. The suspect was brought before the Limassol District Court today, which ordered his detention for three days with his lawyer A. Michael not causing tension.

According to the facts, on 1/11/2024 at 6 am, the 32-year-old, riding his motorcycle south on Nikos Pattichi Street, overtook his vehicle in front. At the same time, the 80-year-old crossed the light-controlled pedestrian crossing, 80 meters before the intersection with Kyprianou Spyrou Avenue, after the crossing's green light had been turned on.

The 32-year-old's vehicle in front complied with the red light and the pedestrian began to cross the road from east to west.

The 32-year-old bypassed the stationary vehicles from the right, violated the red light and hit the pedestrian, who fell on the asphalt. The driver of the motorcycle bypassed the pedestrian from the left and continued his course, leaving the scene of the accident. Arriving at the intersection with Kyprianou Spyrou Avenue, which is controlled by traffic lights, the 32-year-old neglected to comply with the red light and was recorded by the photo-tagging cameras.

The 80-year-old was taken by ambulance to a private hospital, where it was found that she suffered a fractured left wrist, retinal detachment, as well as abrasions and bruises on various parts of her body. After receiving first aid, he was dismissed.

The Police were informed about the incident and members of the Limassol Traffic Police visited the scene for examinations. From the written testimonies obtained and the CCTV footage of adjacent shops, the circumstances of the traffic accident were ascertained.

The Traffic Police asked the District Court for an order to obtain data and photographs from the responsible photo-tagging officer regarding the violation of the motorcycle. The motorcycle that ran a red light was identified and its registration numbers confirmed it belonged to the suspect. In addition, it was found that the 32-year-old does not hold a driving license and there is no valid safety certificate for the motorcycle.

On the same day, a court arrest warrant was issued against the 32-year-old and he was arrested yesterday afternoon at his home in Agia Fyla. The motorcycle he was riding during the accident was taken to the Limassol Traffic Police for further examinations.

During questioning, the suspect made a voluntary statement and admitted that he fled the scene of the accident on his motorcycle because he was scared, but reported the incident to his roommates.

As part of an investigation into a case of burglary of  jewellery and theft, the Police proceeded yesterday to arrest one person.

This is a 36-year-old man who was arrested on a court warrant and taken into custody.

The case concerns the burglary of a jewellery shop in the district of Larnaka on 20/9/2024, during which jewellery worth approximately €15,000 was stolen.

The ICF of Larnaca continues the examinations.

A detention order for a period of 8 days was issued yesterday by the Famagusta District Court against a 28-year-old man, resident of Ayia Napa, to facilitate investigations into an investigated case of night burglary of a residence and theft, illegal possession of property, offences committed on October 31, 2024 in Ayia Napa.

According to Famagusta Police Department Spokesperson Steve Theodoulou, "on October 31, 2024, a 49-year-old tourist reported to the Famagusta ICF that on the same day his rented residence in Ayia Napa was burglarized and from there electronic devices, money and various personal belongings of a total value of €970 were stolen."

During the examinations, testimony was obtained that a 28-year-old resident of Ayia Napa was involved in the case "and in a search conducted at his home, electronic devices were found, including part of the stolen property, for which he did not give satisfactory explanations about the legality of possession and he was arrested for the offense of illegal possession of property," Theodoulou said.

Against him, Theodoulou said, "a judicial arrest warrant was obtained for the investigated offenses of night burglary of a residence and theft, illegal possession of property and after he was re-arrested he was brought  before the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni against whom a detention order was secured for 8 days."   The ICF of Famagusta is investigating.

A robbery against a 24-year-old foreigner took place last night, where his assailants stole his motorcycle.

According to the complaint of a young Indian who is in the Republic as a student, around 19:00 last night, while he was in the Kapsalos area, two persons riding a black motorcycle, stopped his course.

According to the complainant, the unknown assailants attacked and beat him and then stole his motorcycle, worth €1,500. He said they were both wearing black clothes and black helmets.

Following the complaint, members of the ICF Limassol and the OPE went to the area for on-site examinations and investigations.

A 77-year-old woman is standing trial at Limassol District Court on 13 counts of animal cruelty after authorities discovered 11 dogs living in deplorable conditions at her properties.

State veterinary officer Konstantinos Economides testified that three dogs were initially found in July 2020 following a report to police. The animals were severely dehydrated and suffering from chronic conditions and leg wounds, with one dog bedridden. Despite immediate veterinary intervention, one dog died shortly after rescue.

Economides described how the dogs were kept in a poorly ventilated building with glass windows during August’s high temperatures, without access to water or food. Two dogs were found locked in a bathroom.

A subsequent police search of the defendant’s nearby residence uncovered eight more dogs in similarly dire conditions. All rescued animals suffered from multiple ailments including parasites, anaemia, leishmaniasis, and skin diseases, according to court testimony.

The defence counsel has requested time to review new evidence presented during the hearing.

As part of an investigation into an alleged sham marriage case, police arrested a 25-year-old man on Monday.

A police statement released on Tuesday said that the man was taken into custody under a court-issued warrant.

According to the statement, two other individuals, a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, were also arrested in connection with the case and remain in detention under six-day custody orders.

The Aradippou police station is continuing its investigation into the matter.
