The Municipality of Athienou and the Larnaka Tourism Development and Promotion Company announced the completion of the action "Artistic curation of six shelters at bus stops in Athienou on the subject of local embroidery".
Specifically, in order to highlight the local embroidery "Lace venis or pittotes and Athienite full-fledged lace", which was inscribed in 2015 on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Cyprus, which is coordinated by the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO, the Municipality of Athienou and the Larnaka Tourism Board decided to promote it outdoors through a contemporary artistic approach.
The Municipality of Athienou and the Kallinikeio Municipal Museum of Athienou, who coordinated the action, invited the artists of Athienou for collaboration. The artists Irene Klokkari, Christiana Pougerasi and Chrysostomos Kitas responded to this, following the guidelines given to them and each one submitting their own artistic mark, creating six unique and original compositions.
The Municipality of Athienou and the Larnaka Tourism Board invite both citizens and visitors of Athienou to enjoy and enjoy these outdoor works of art, to be photographed with them, to protect them and to take on the role of saving and disseminating the art and cultural heritage of the place. The action was supported by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, to which ETAP expressed thanks as well as to the artists, who worked with passion and dedication.
