The Pafos-Polis Chrysochous road project will be completed, albeit with some delay, Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Alexis Vafeadis assured in statements in Choletria, Paphos.

As Mr. Vafeadis told CNA, "the project will be finished, there will be a delay, but it will end", adding that the Ministry of Transport wishes the Pafos-Polis Chrysochous road project to be completed by the contractor that has undertaken today.

Mr. Vafeadis noted that "the ideal scenario for us is for him to complete the project. But if he doesn't intend to finish it, we'll turn to other contractors."

He noted that the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous road project is something that concerns them. As he explained, a process is currently underway aimed at finding a compromise between the contractor and public works.

The contractor, he continued, has submitted some demands, and public works has rejected those demands.

He added that the Central Committee for Changes and Claims, before which this case is being sought, has appointed a committee precisely to investigate whether a compromise solution can be found between the two parties.

This, he said, "we expect it to clear up within the next two weeks and then we will know what happens."

He also pointed out that as the Ministry of Transport they will proceed immediately after the decision of KEAA to ask contractors to submit to them a detailed work plan in order to make sure that the necessary resources, human resources, and machinery will be provided to proceed with the project in accordance with the provisions of the contract, he added.

"We say that this project remains very high on the Government's priorities, it is a project, which we want to see finished and delivered for use."

If the contractor who is responsible for this project does not show due diligence and due willingness to proceed with the project, then the contract will impose some measures on the part of the government and we will undertake to complete the project with other contractors, he concluded.
