The Audit Office of the Republic organizes the Annual Meeting of the Contact Committee, which it chairs, at the Cap. St. Georges Hotel in Paphos. The proceedings of this important summit will take place tomorrow and the day after, at the luxurious resort of Agios Georgios in Pegeia, but the leaders of the European audit institutions will arrive from today, in one of the most important gatherings taking place this year in Cyprus.

The Contact Committee is composed of the heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (HEIs) of the Member States of the European Union (EU) and the European Court of Auditors. The topic of the meeting will be migration.

On the first day of the meeting, the Director of International and Horizontal Affairs of the European Commission, the Deputy Minister of Migration and International Protection of Cyprus, the Head of the Liaison Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees with the EU Agency for Asylum (EUAA), and the Director for the EU subregion of the International Organization for Migration, They will elaborate, inter alia, on the EU's migration policy and the reasons that led to the need for its reform, the challenges faced by the Republic of Cyprus in its implementation as a member-state, as well as the humanitarian aspect of the issue, as stemming from international conventions.

During the second day, working groups will examine the role that HEIs can play, including in their audits the challenges of migration, as well as any opportunities that may arise from the proper management of the issue.
