The goal of everyone in the municipal authority should be to create a Pafos that will be a model of social cohesion and improvement of the daily lives of its people, stressed the municipal councillor of AKEL in the Municipality of Pafos and president of the Social Care and Cohesion Committee of the Municipality, Mariella Theofanous.
As a primary necessity for achieving these goals, Mrs. Theofanous raised the necessity of establishing a rehabilitation center in the Municipality of Pafos in order to offer substantial support to people with addiction problems. She also stressed the need for the creation of a food surplus management program, in order, as she said, to reduce food waste and strengthen families in need, through the collection of surpluses from food distribution and catering facilities.
Mariella Theofanous particularly stressed the advantages for the municipal authority and the society of Pafos from the establishment of a team of volunteers for the programs of the Municipality, considering that it is the key to the implementation of many social actions, from the creation of a program for the free remedial teaching of children from vulnerable groups, with the help of volunteer teachers and students and from the establishment of local support and cooperation groups in the neighbourhoods of the city.
Supporting each other in neighbourhoods can contribute significantly to social cohesion, she said, since they will offer help with everyday needs, such as shopping and elderly care. Mrs. Theofanous estimated that with the active participation of citizens, local businesses and institutions, the Municipality of Pafos will be able to become a model of social sensitivity and solidarity.
