AUTUMN IN PAPHOS SHOWS IT IS STILL A POPULAR TOURISM DESTINATION

Filenews 26 October 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

We may have left them behind during the tourist season and summer, the evenings may have recently begun to remind us of the winter that comes with the prevailing chill, but on the coastal front of Kato Pafos everything reminds us to this day of how popular a tourist destination the city of Aphrodite is.

Hundreds of European and other visitors enjoy the unique natural beauty of the landscape, the archaeological treasures of the area and the pedestrian walkways by the sea, creating images reminiscent of the heart of the summer in late October.

Idyllic images were recorded by the lens of "F" in the square of the Castle, on the pedestrian street of the Lighthouse, on the pedestrian street in front of the buildings of the harbour and elsewhere, with the last visitors of Pafos enjoying the sunset and the sweet autumn by the sea just before their return to the winter landscape of central and northern Europe.

The schedules of Europe's major tour operators and the winter schedule of Pafos airport show that the tourist traffic in the city and province, which has moved very satisfactorily until this month, bids us farewell from the beginning of November. With a flare in the festive Christmas and New Year period, Paphos will now expect spring 2025 to be reminiscent of the showcase of Cypriot tourism.

Officials of the tourist industry of the province told "F" that from the beginning of November the tourist flow to Paphos is estimated to be limited primarily to individual visitors arriving for short getaways, taking advantage of the low-cost routes of air carriers to Paphos airport. Organised programmes will be available almost exclusively from the UK market, they stressed, in limited numbers compared to the summer season.

On the contrary, countries such as Poland, Hungary, Austria, but also to a lesser extent southern countries such as France and Italy, are increasingly acquiring a role in its tourist landscape with a year-round steady flow of visitors in smaller quantitative indicators due to low cost routes, they stressed.

Air traffic at Pafos airport, after the "high flights" and the first two months of autumn, will be greatly reduced from the beginning of November, as shown by the winter schedule already prepared based on the airlines' schedules.

The companies that use it as their base, primarily Ryanair and, to a lesser extent, carriers with a traditionally stable relationship with the province, such as Εasyjet and other British companies, will now have a stable presence at Pafos Airport.

The same tourism operators point out that it is now up to everyone to contribute to the expansion of air connectivity on a year-round basis, in order for Pafos to recover lost ground and now manage to achieve its timeless goal of transforming the destination into a year-round one.
