The Department of Cyprus Meteorology has issued a new warning for thunderstorms for today, following yesterday's thunderstorms in several areas of the country, as unstable weather conditions remain in our area.
"Unstable weather conditions remain in our region and for this reason it is necessary to renew the EMMA storm warning," the Meteorological Service told NDT.
According to the new yellow warning, which is in effect from 12:00 to 17:00, isolated severe thunderstorms are expected that will mainly affect the mountainous and eastern half of the island. Hail is expected to fall in a thunderstorm while winds may change and strengthen. The intensity of rain is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour.
Detailed weather forecast for today Sunday:
Weak low pressure and unstable weather conditions affect the region.
Today the weather will be partly cloudy and locally at times mostly cloudy and initially there will be isolated rain or isolated thunderstorms, mainly on the coast or in the interior, but gradually the phenomena are expected to expand with local rains and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountainous and eastern half of the island. Hail may fall in a thunderstorm and winds may strengthen and change. The winds will blow mainly southwest to northwest, mild to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, and later locally in the southwest and south coasts until strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will initially be a little turbulent, only to become later a little turbulent and locally a little turbulent to turbulent. The temperature will rise around 30 degrees in the interior and north coasts, around 31 in the southeast and east coasts, around 29 in the rest of the coasts and around 21 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight the weather is gradually improving and any phenomena are mainly limited to the coast, where isolated rains may occur, without excluding an isolated storm. The winds will become progressively descending, weak, 3 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little turbulent, however in the west it will remain a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to around 19 degrees in the interior, around 20 degrees on the coast and around 11 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Monday, mainly from midday onwards, localized rain or isolated thunderstorms are expected, especially in the mountains, interior and eastern areas. On Tuesday the weather will initially be mostly clear, but in the afternoon there will be locally increased clouds, which may give isolated rain, mainly in the mountains. On Wednesday the weather will be mostly clear.
The temperature on Monday is not expected to change significantly, while by Wednesday it will rise to be close to or slightly above average climatic values.
