The CFA is warned by the Police that from the next matchday, if incidents are repeated, they will show zero tolerance and will not guarantee the safety of a match, so it will either not take place or will be interrupted, accordingly.
With a new letter from the Police, which was sent today to the CFA, which is revealed by Filenews, the incidents that took place in two matches last matchday are recorded in a table. Specifically, it is noted that during the football matches Anorthosis – Apollon held at Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium on 31/8/2024 and Nea Salamina – Omonia held at Famagusta – Epistrofi Stadium on 1/9/2024, Police officers who had been designated as responsible for conducting the matches, recorded unlawful incidents.
These include the massive attack by Apollon fans against an Anorthosis fan outside the stadium and the throwing of torches at Famagusta Stadium. The Police stress that these serious incidents took place despite the timely and repeated warnings of the Police both to the CFA and to the other involved and responsible bodies, about the whole policy that the CFA leadership decided to follow on the issue of the movement of fans.
The Police now expect the Federation to faithfully implement the recently decided new disciplinary measures and to impose the appropriate penalties where and where it is imposed.
At the same time, the Police emphasizes that from the next matchday there will be zero tolerance to any phenomena of similar seriousness of delinquency, so without any reservation or hesitation, it will apply the relevant provisions of the current legislation concerning the safe conduct of the games.
At the same time, it states that it will seriously examine the security measures that will be taken and accordingly decide whether or not to police the games.
"In this context, all stakeholders are called upon and in particular security officers, union managers and supervisors to formally exercise their duties and obligations under the applicable legislation. The same applies to the authorities and managers of the grounds issuing the relevant safety certificates as well as the other relevant bodies," the letter said.
Finally, the Police emphasizes that it will expect that the involved bodies will rise to the occasion for the smooth and safe conduct of the championship.
