Serious irregularities in the implementation of the coastal pedestrian promenade project in Kissonerga are identified in a report by the Audit Office.
There is insufficient monitoring of the progress of the works by the Community Council, insufficient control by the local offices of the Department of Town Planning, award of the tender and award of the project without the approval of the District Administration and payments to the contractor, despite serious defects and omissions and the use of inferior in quality and insufficient in quantity materials.
The project, as stated in the report, was received, despite obvious defects and deviations from the construction plans.
The project's budget, from almost one million initially, was revised to more than €10 million during its implementation. It started in 2004 and was delivered in 2020.
