The Movement condemns this action and calls for an immediate investigation to be launched so that responsibilities can be attributed where appropriate.
The announcement in its entirety
The decision of the President of the Community of Anarita to ignore every effort, wherever it came from, to save the old buildings in order to create a car park is causing complete disappointment.
As a Movement, we have tried to prevent the great environmental and cultural disaster that is being prepared in Anarita. However, the 150-year-old building was demolished by a decision of the majority of the Community Council of Anarita.
Although a meeting was pending, which was set for September 30, 2024, at the initiative of the Commissioner for the Environment, to which the Pafos District Authority, the Department of Town Planning, the Assistant District Officer of Pafos and the President of the Community of Anarita himself were invited, in the end the President of the Community operated in a way that causes concern and raises questions.
As the Pafos District Committee of the Green Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, we condemn the action of the President of the Community of Anarita and call for an investigation into the demolition of the historic building to begin immediately, so that responsibilities can be attributed where appropriate.
