PAPHOS - ILLEGAL PRACTICE OF DENTISTRY

Filenews 10 August 2024 - by Dora Christodoulou

The Cyprus Dental Association has filed a complaint with the Police for an incident of illegal practice of dentistry by unqualified persons in the district of Paphos.

The president of the Paphos Dental Association, Eleni Attica, said that the case concerns a beauty salon where dental procedures are performed, specifically teeth whitening. Teeth whitening is an exclusively dental procedure which, in addition to procedures inside the mouth, also involves the use of specialized materials, the specifications of which are strictly determined by the European Union, she clarified. The legislation of the Republic of Cyprus and the corresponding European one are clear and stipulate that all dental procedures must be performed exclusively by a licensed dentist in a properly designed area, added the president of Paphos dentists.

Any posting of advertisements referring to dental services in the specific area that has been reported, Attiki said, also constitutes a proclamation of the commission of a criminal offense and its prevention is the duty and responsibility of the Police. Therefore, she stressed, the Pancyprian Dental Association reported the case to the Pafos Police Director Nikos Tsapis so that he can take all appropriate actions both to restore legality and order and to protect Public Health.

Mrs. Attiki called on people to be particularly careful and to go for the health of their teeth to suitably qualified people with certified dental degrees.
