OPEN CALL TO ARTISTS - 'REFLECTIONS OF A COMMUNITY'

OPEN CALL OPEN CALL TO INTIMATE ARTISTS

📍📆12 until October 20, 2024 at the Old Electric Power Station in Paphos.
➡️ The invitation is for professional artists (graduates or non) born or residing in Paphos.
Editors' pondering point:
✏️For the group exhibition Reflections of a Community, we urge artists to take an in-depth exploration of community life in Paphos, in all its elements: identity / completeness, mindsets, diversity and difference, local feeling, public and private sphere, public and personal experience.
In other words, artists are invited to reflect on the concept of the place and way of life in Paphos, and to present the visual imprint of their research, certainly far beyond the usual revisions of the city, attempting a narrative and symbolic rendition of the place through diverse reflections of (reflections), the way they employ them themselves and creatively translate them into the work of art.
The demand of the exhibition is not the presentation of a series of external images from Paphos, but the dynamic mapping of the community as an internal and mental landscape, and an in progress assembly of this condition through the snapshots that the artists will submit. The group nature of the exhibition takes on dimensions of synergy, and becomes a shared tour of the narrative web of the digital community, a web woven and highlighted by the artists themselves, with the works as roadmarks and marks / threads.
The curators aspire to produce thus a vivid and open archive that will consolidate all the stories, marking a new, great narrative of the community identity and experience of Paphos, with our visual artists as narrator and performer.

OPEN CALL FOR VISUAL ARTISTS
Petrideion Foundation is looking for professional artists (certified or not) who were born or who are currently living in Paphos, to participate in the exhibition Reflections of a Community, which is taking place from
📆✏️October 12 to October 20th, 2024, at the Old Electric Hall of Paphos.
Curators’ Note:
✏️Regarding the group exhibition Reflections of a Community, we urge the artists to go in a thorough exploration of community life in Paphos, investigating every aspect of it: identity and otherness, mentality, plurality and difference, local temperament, public and individual space, communal and personal experience. In other words, we urge the artists to reflect on the concept of both the place (natural, urban and social environment) and the way of life in Paphos, and to demonstrate the artistic imprint of their research, away from the usual and conventional representations of the city itself. We would like them to demonstrate a narrative and even symbolic depictions of Paphos (the concept of place), by perceiving and translating in their work the several reflections of the city and its community.
The main goal of this exhibition is not to present a series of outer images of Paphos, but to map the community as an inner and spiritual landscape, and to (re)construct this landscape as a work in progress, using the “snapshots” by the artists. The group element means that the exhibition is rather a synergy and a shared journey through the narrative web of Paphos’ community, a web that is being created and depicted by the artists themselves, since their works are the signs and lines of this visual storytelling. Thus, the curators’ ambition is to create a living and open archive, which will embody and unite all these stories, pointing to a new and great narration regarding the communal identity and experience of Paphos; and in this effort, we would like the artists to be the narrators and the translators / interpreters of the entire concept.
The artists who are willing to participate to the exhibition are kindly requested to complete the google form found at this link:
at the form you will be asked the following information:
1.High resolution photos (min 300dpi) of their selected works (max 3 works), along with the following info: Title / Dimensions / Technique / Year of creation.

3.Concept of the artworks.
