MULTIPLE PENSIONS AND BENEFITS PROPOSAL REMAINS IN THE DRAWERS

Filenews 17 August 2024 - by Eleftheria Paizanou

In the drawers remain proposals aimed at ending the distortions seen with multiple pensions and regulating the pension benefits of state officials.

It is not yet clear when the Council of Ministers will approve the legislation prepared by the Ministry of Finance, which provides for the start of pension payments for state officials at the age of 65, instead of the current 60.

In addition, they provide for the payment of a one-off gratuity after the official leaves his post, instead of the payment of a pension.

At the same time, it is not clear whether the ministry will make changes to the legislative proposals, as these do not satisfy the parties, including the opposition parties. This was clearly shown by the absence of the majority of parties from an earlier meeting at the Ministry of Finance on this issue.

As is well known, the Audit Office had openly disagreed with the government's proposals and prepared its own regulations, which were elaborated by the Parliament's services in a legislative manner, resulting in them being submitted in the form of law proposals. It is noted that the draft law of DISY and DIKO for the voluntary renunciation of pensions by officials is also in Parliament.
