Presidential residence in Troodos [free transportation from Troodos Square]
7 September - 11am-5pm
They catch the mountains. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Presidency of the Republic organize an event aimed at supporting small local rural businesses.
In a post on social media, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism announced the event "Pame Troodos", a festival of traditional flavours and handicrafts to promote small businesses in our country.
More specifically, the festival of traditional flavours and handicrafts for the promotion of small businesses will take place on Saturday 7 September at the presidential residence in Troodos and is an initiative of the wife of the President of the Republic Filippa Karsera Christodoulides as part of her charity action.
The event will take place between 11.00 and 17.00 and there will be free transportation from Troodos Square. Part of the proceeds from product sales will be donated to support the Rural Community Welfare Councils (CSR Kyperounda), thus giving the festival a charitable character. The event invites residents and visitors to visit Troodos and enjoy a day full of culture, flavours and tradition. The Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities, the CSR of Kyperounta and the Press and Information Office will also contribute to the event.
However, as has been repeatedly mentioned, for the government, tourism in mountainous areas and the countryside in general is a priority. It is recalled that on the occasion of the announcement of the sponsorship scheme entitled "Subsidy Scheme for the Revival of Rural Areas, Mountainous, Border and Remote Areas through the Creation of Authentic Experiences", the Deputy Minister of Tourism Costas Koumis had stated, among other things: "The support of mountainous and rural areas is a priority for the Christodoulides government.
The sponsorship scheme is a first-class opportunity for both local governments and residents of these areas to implement projects that they may have envisioned for years. At the same time, we assume that these projects will prove to be very important for the development of tourism in the hinterland and other areas covered by the plan. In fact, the sponsorship scheme or this type of incentive scheme can lead to the diversification of our country's tourism product and certainly to the increase of the competitiveness of Cypriot tourism".
In this regard, a few days ago the Council of Ministers decided to approve the Draft Regulations submitted by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in relation to "Rural Hotels". The newly coined term "Rural Hotels" was introduced with the passing of an amending law by Parliament last March. As stated in an announcement by the Deputy Ministry, the law achieves the development of a new policy for hotels that operate or are expected to operate within the core Community of mountainous and/or disadvantaged areas or in other appropriate locations, within the development limits of these areas. As noted by the Deputy Ministry, the provisions are expected to positively affect the development of hotel businesses in these areas, while, at the same time, existing hotels are now given the opportunity to upgrade to a class/category, provided that they meet a number of other conditions.
