An announcement was issued by the East Pafos Municipality regarding bathers' reports regarding the existence of white/brown spots resembling foam, on the surface of the sea, at the Municipal Beach of Geroskipou.
The Municipality of East Pafos, according to the announcement, proceeded to a first investigation and a series of actions to ensure public health.
The Municipality informs the public that: 1) The results of the sea water analyses on the bathers' beaches of Geroskipou, conducted by the Municipality, are very good. 2) We have been informed by the Port Authority that, as of August 1, 2024, all vessels deliver their sewage ashore, as was the case in recent years, but it is now ensured that these deliveries are made in the presence of the Port Authority or the Port Police. 3) According to a special scientist contacted by the Municipality, the amorphous masses of mucus, colored brown / white, floating on the surface, and then sinking, are the result of natural processes that take place in surface waters and correlate with the photosynthetic activity of single-celled organisms (phytoplankton), found in the marine environment.
